A Graham article urges local citizens and business leaders to actively support oil and gas prospects while pursuing water and infrastructure gains. It stresses collective effort to attract electric lights, a railroad, and further enterprises, warning stagnation if some residents refuse to back new projects.
Dr W T Rouse conducts revival services under a tent with rising attendance. Thirteen additions to the church include eleven by letter and two by statement. He will preach at Flat Rock next Sunday at 4 PM andAgain on Sunday night the sermon titled Influence. All invited as the meeting continues indefinitely.
A brief notice promotes the Texas Almanac and State Industrial Guide with county descriptions land prices and a railroad and county map for 30 cents postpaid. Also reports Mr and Mrs J K Cooper returning from Clarksville to attend sick relatives, who were improving.
The Democratic Executive Committee of Young County met with strong turnout and named precinct chairmen for Jean and Connor Creek. A July 23 primary was ordered with a two stage contest for offices lacking a majority, eight to seven on the double primary, and lots drawn for ticket positions along with assessed expenses. Geo. H. McLaren named County Chairman and a subcommittee will reconvene July 11 to finalize the ticket with state and district candidates each paying one dollar.
Excitement grows over a so called wild man seen nine to ten miles southwest of Graham. The man, son of Barneo, has appeared intermittently for three weeks, wearing clothes, building fires, cooking meals, and acting nearly human. He remains harmless and eludes pursuers.
On Graham’s diamond last Tuesday evening the Jacksboro teams held 0 0 through the fifth inning. After that, Graham’s pitching shut down Jacksboro as Graham won 14 to 2.
Roy Moore and Pearl Sparks were married last Saturday morning by Judge E W Fry. The bride, daughter of Mr and Mrs J D Sparks, has worked as an operator for Graham Telephone Co. for two years. The groom is an operator for the Western Union Telegraph Co. They will reside in Graham.
Mr W I Craig and Miss Elsie Woods united in marriage last Sunday evening at the bride’s parents home in East Graham Judge E W Fry performed the ceremony joining the couple The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs B G Woods who moved to Graham from South Bend The groom is a Graham carpenter The couple traveled to Throckmorton for a brief honeymoon and friends extended best wishes.
R V Davidson candidate for governor will address a large crowd at the Graham court house next Tuesday at 1 PM. He has solid local support and will also speak at Jean next Tuesday at 10 AM to rally voters.
A field meeting is set for 2 30 p m Thursday July 7 at the H C Fields farm near Graham. All farmers in contact with Fields are invited to attend as explanations of matters will be given by Tom M Marks Special Agent Cooperative Demonstrative Work U S Department of Agriculture.
Frank Pulps has rented the W. S. McJimsey house and moved in this morning.
On Tuesday June 21 1910 at the bride’s home Layne J Madison and Donna Clare Brooks were united in marriage in a quiet home ceremony Rev T Joe Talley officiated. The bride daughter of BD Brooks and his wife a former county citizen known to many in the area. She previously worked as a leading sales lady in a local dry goods store and has many friends across the county who offer congratulations.
An automobile company has been organized with Jo W. Akin as president Charles Widmayer as general manager and John C. Bower as sales manager. The firm will handle Ford automobiles and keep top cars in stock for immediate delivery and demonstrations. The officers bring extensive automobile industry experience and have built a fine building near the Widmayer blacksmith shop to house their machines and repairs.
Judge George H. McLaren departs this evening for Springfield Illinois to confer with northern agents from Illinois Indiana Iowa and Missouri about state matters and coordination.
