Grandma Mullins Dies Near Loving After Long Life
Mrs. S. F. Mullins a longtime county figure died near Loving on February 21 after weeks of declining health. Born January 1, 1831 in Tennessee, she moved to Texas in 1870, married L. C. Mullins in 1849, and raised eleven children. Surviving are four children, thirty six grandchildren, sixty nine great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. The body was buried beside her husband in Alvord.

New Grocery Store To Open March 1
A new grocery store will open in the Hallam building on the west side of the square on March first. Proprietors are Jay Garvin and W F Johnson both Graham natives with long grocery experience. The remodeled building will offer a first class grocery and they invite the people of Graham and surrounding territory to call on them.

Union Oil Company Delivers Lynn No 2 Well near Oil City
Union Oil Co. brought in Lynn No. 2 Monday for nearly 400 barrels at 2660 feet. The oil flows through 10 inch casing and is expected to exceed 400 barrels. The well is on Lynn land near Oil City and rising crude prices since year start are expected to spur more drilling in the area.

Phillips Builds Three Gasoline Plants in Young County
The Phillips Petroleum Company has begun three absorp tion plants in Young County. One will be at South Bend, another at Banger, and the third at Herron City. The firm is said to contract to handle all Roxana and Cosden gas. The plants will be of the three unit type.

Judge Reeves Tours Austin On County Tax Issues
Judge W H Reeves visited Austin last week to discuss county tax matters with Governor Neff and the attorney general. He called county judges and commissioners to meet in the capital to address road taxes and funding concerns. Reeves notes the county’s limited road funds and absence of road bonds limits state funding compared with other counties.

Fain Dies After Weeks of Illness in Graham Texas
Mrs Elizabeth Pauline Anderson Fain died at her daughter Mrs H E Griffin on East Fourth Street February 15 after several weeks illness. Born 1843 in Maringo County Alabama she moved to Carthage Texas as a child. She married Captain J M Fain January 8 1862 and had ten children. Surviving sons Booth Hood Bar Patton and other daughters live in Dallas Shreveport Cleburne and Graham. Body taken by special train to Ennis for burial in family lot.

Robert Lynch was robbed by a man described as a Negro in Graham late Monday night on South Elm Street near John Gay's residence. The assailant demanded money, took a few pennies, and told Lynch to go away, reflecting local tensions over “too many Negroes” in town.

Annual Graham Mar Track and Field Day Planned
The executive committee of Young County's Interscholastic League met in the County Superintendent's office to set the date and venue for the annual field day. Judge Walker of the Graham Chamber of Commerce pledged to cover all expenses and prizes if Graham hosts the meet, with March 30-31 chosen. Preliminary literary events begin March 30 at 2 30, finals at 8, track and field start at 10 the next morning, and contestant names are due by March 24.

Pioneer Citizen Mary Etta Wood Dies in Graham
Mrs Mary Etta Thompson Wood died Monday morning February 19 at the West Second street home of John H Wood and wife. Born in Georgia November 1851 she was 71. She married J M Wood in Gregg County Texas in 1875 and lived in Young County and New Mexico before returning to Graham. She leaves two sons Bertram and Carroll Oklahoma City and funeral rites were conducted at Oak Grove Cemetery with Dr C R Taylor and Rev G W Black officiating. She joined the Graham Baptist church years ago.
