A local store promotes deep discounts on boys and young men novelty dress hats priced at 98c to $2.35, plus A. D and American Lady boots at $3.95, Red Seal Ginghams at 10c, and undershirts and pants at 21c. The ad touts a reputation for delivering on promises and urges Christmas gift bargains.
A window of table linen and napkins in various prices plus linen towels hemstitched and scalloped. Silk head and neck scarves, house slippers, Christmas boxed neckties, novelty sets with tie hose and handkerchief. Lace curtains bedspreads shirts and handbags advertised for Christmas gifts.
Graham hosted three big trade days in a week with crowds despite chilly winds and damp air. Thursday Young County Day drew town and country folk for the carnival program while Saturday focused on trading and street carnival. Monday Trades Day saw distant visitors, stock trading, and a continued carnival presence, ending with a large overall turnout.
A late Friday night blaze wiped out Crabb Conservatory of Music in Stamford after a cold day requiring five room fires. Investigators suspect a defective flue caused the fire. Five pianos two grands a cello brass instruments and a large stock of sheet music valued with building loss, insured for 2500 dollars. The conservatory was owned by the father of Prof. J. F. H. Crabb.
Statement notes 9203 bales weighed in the Graham yard this season with 8500 bales shipped out. The figures reflect progress in the cotton season and indicate remaining stock in the yard.
Miss Maud Keith died at her parents home near Orth Tuesday evening after a long illness. Her funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at Newcastle cemetery. She grew up in the True community and was beloved by many friends. The Leader extends sympathy to the family and friends.
On Monday night December 2 the Knights of Pythias elected officers for the year to be installed the first Monday night in January. Named were N. B. Farmer as C C and R Li Reed as W V C, Fred T. Arnold K of R and S, W. A. Stewart Prelate, B. B. Hall Master of Works, A. B. Ed dleman Master at Arms, E. W. Fry Inner Guard, Sam Copeland Outer Guard, G. B. Johnson Master of Exchequer, W. A. Morris Trustee.
Hal Jackson has improved rapidly over the past week and his parents believe they can bring him home in about ten days.
January 13 1913 marks the first Trades Day of the year and Boy's Corn Club Day. Hon Tom Marks to visit J H Fisher to organize the club with boys ages ten to eighteen. Fisher plans to visit schools countywide and collect names. Entertainment reports praise Mr Eldredge's readings and impersonations but note poor public support for Lyceum programs run by the W C T U.
The Misses Holbert were here from Proffitt on Monday and Tuesday bringing a friendly visit and local chat.
Lorraine Rouse, a Howard Payne College student in Brownwood Texas, accidentally shot himself with a 22 caliber automatic rifle in the campus bath house. The bullet damaged his left breast area but is not believed fatal as he undergoes medical care.
Last Friday proved the coldest day of the season with a north wind making the air feel biting. Few residents ventured out as thermometers hovered near freezing and a heavy Friday night freeze broke some water pipes. Saturday dawned bright and clear, a sunny but chilly day.
A masked man tried to rob S B Street & Co last Thursday night at 9. Homer Mayes faced the robber at the west counter and a gunpoint demand to lock the front doors. Mayes protected a baby as the robber led him toward the safe, then escaped when a police officer arrived. no one was harmed and no clues to the attacker remain.
The moving picture show drew a packed house during carnival week. Tonight audiences witness A Medley, with a 7 30 start time and nightly film changes through Saturday.
W S Howard of the Farmer route visited the office to report experimental artichokes planted last spring. He plans to bring a sample for display in the window to show farmers the crop potential. Also, Rev Hall and Mr and Mrs Rose visited Aunt Addie Davis at Tank Valley and held a brief service, while Aunt Addie remains ill but cheerful.
