Lorraine Rouse, a 17 year old Howard Payne college student, accidentally shot himself in the breast with a 22 caliber rifle. The bullet traversed the body from left of the breast bone to the back, likely injuring the heart and lung but the surgeon believes recovery possible.
Finis Rogers and Gretrude Brooks wed at Rev C A Ferguson residence near South Bend last Thursday evening December 12 with Ferguson officiating. The bride is popular in Fish Creek and the groom plans to live in Des Moines New Mexico with his family.
The Graham schools announce a two week recess while teachers attend an institute at Olney. Non resident staff from Graham High School will spend Christmas and holidays in Mineola Denton Atlanta Big Springs and Moody with named individuals Ethel Fannie Bye Rogers Bessie Lyon Gradie Mizzell Amy Atwood and Professor Giltilant.
Mr and Mrs Watt Mayes express sincere thanks to neighbors and friends for kind attention during Mr Mayes illness. They are grateful for encouragement and support in the hours of pain and distress.
The Leader acknowledges receiving a box of Fresno raisins from I. H. Jones of Sanger California. The editor says these are the finest raisins seen and make a cherished Christmas present for the editor and family. Several Graham friends were similarly remembered by Mr. Jones.
Prof. and Mrs Crabb will leave Returday to spend Christmas with his parents in Stamford.
W S Timmons died at his Mount Pleasant home after a year with paralysis following a stroke. Born July 22, 1854 in Georgia, he moved to Texas in 1872, settled near Median Chapel, and raised a large family. He was admired for honesty and willingness to help neighbors, with six of ten children surviving. He joined the Missionary Baptist church young and valued Christian living.
Five miles above Crystal Falls R G Stoker sent a sample of large pecans from his tree. The nuts yielded about one bushel but fetched a good price locally. The Clear Fork region and other streams in Young County contributed to a pecan boom earning thousands of dollars for residents.
Members of the Masonic Order mourn a departed brother interred by Graham Lodge funeral rites. Friends gathered at the residence to pay respects though many could not attend, reflecting on his community ties and family. Messages of blessing and farewell express hope for the departed’s heavenly peace and comfort for the widow and children.
L A Knapp arrested during carnival week on gambling charge was wanted in youth Dakota on a felony charge. Sheriff Brown received a reward of 50 dollars from Butte County sheriff and Knapp agreed to return with officers without requisition. He pleaded guilty to gambling here and paid his fine before leaving. Knapp’s belongings included a pistol cartridge box leather club and a bogus ten dollar bill.
A freight wreck on the Rock Island line near Fort Worth Sunday evening delayed the 9:45 P M passenger train. The Graham travelers aboard were delayed and others from the north spent the night at Bridgeport as the train arrived about 10 o clock Monday morning.
Mr and Mrs Rollie Voules are in Dallas. G W Davis of Howe Texas spent last week in Young and Throckmorton counties pursuing interests here. Davis, an early settler arriving in 1879, recalls many incidents from that era. He renewed for The Leader before returning home Saturday. R W Dooley came from Clear Fork near South Bend last Wednesday to see the dgeter and address a bone issue, renewing for The Leader with a date reading January 10, 1924.
