Dent Wiles and decide a three year levy for 1949 1950 and 1951 to finance a street repair program. Voters in Kanawha Mercer Greenbrier and Doddridge counties overwhelmingly approved new or continued excess levies for school funding. Doddridge first ever excess levy passed 86 percent in favor, adding about 200000 to district funds and unlocking 85000 state funds. Greenbrier's 48 of 60 precincts reported 2870 to 367 in favor for a 300000 raise and about 200000 state funds. Kanawha has sustained the levy since 1937 in a three year cycle.

Public Roads Administration approval was recommended for Hillard Marcum of Verdunville, Logan County, on a Tyler County road project involving grading drainage and base laying on 2.75 miles of secondary Route 6/3. Bid openings occurred April 26 with subsequent bidding analyses since May 10. Awards include Osborn Construction Co. of Clarksburg for Dodd Bridge County resurfacing on the Salem Middlebourne Pike at $21,899. Feather Construction Co. of Morgantown for Harrison County resurfacing 6.4 miles of State Route 20 Caldwell Run to Lumberport at $29,458. and Highway Construction Co. of Clarksburg for Randolph County resurfacing between Valley Head and Pocahontas County line at $14,220.50.

Truck Driver Narrowly Escapes Fire On Country Club Road
A. J. Coffman, 24, of Uniontown Pennsylvania, escaped serious injury when a Hammond Fire Brick semi trailer exploded into flames on the Country Club road six miles out of Grafton. The truck burned completely with $10,000 loss for bricks and $600 for the trailer. Bill Lewis of Pittsburgh and West Virginia Gay Co flagged the truck. the gasoline tank exploded, prompting the driver to jump clear through a blazing wall. The Grefton Volunteer Fire Department, led by Fire Chief John Proctor, arrived with a new truck and helped extinguish the fire.
