Senate group to meet on wealth tax plan tonight
Washington June 25 Republicans protested haste as Chairman Harrison of the senate finance committee called a meeting to plan procedure. A three way tax program to raise 340 million dollars through inheritance and gift levies higher taxes on large incomes and a graduated corporation tax would be added to the drug measure to extend nuisance taxes another year. Lighter term given youths in kidnap case
In Jasper Indiana June 25 a judge set aside life terms for two youths involved in an interstate kidnapping. Fourteen year old Bassem Raf and 17 year old Mauricie Sheridan of Huntington were ordered to begin terms at Pendleton reform school or receive lighter sentences after pleading guilty to automobile banditry. Ray, the other boy, was sent to the Indiana Boyd School with conditions to report to parents and West Virginia guardian Carl Yost.
