Quarry Blast Kills Nearly A Dozen At Rio Grande Quarry
At the Rio Grande quarry of Southwest Portland Cement Co near El Paso Texas a dynamite blast killed and injured many workers. Stephen Sparks 17 son of the superintendent was among the dead or missing. About 20 000 pounds of dynamite were used as witnesses described men blown into the air and into bits. Bloodhounds were used to locate buried workers and Juan Saucedo was rushed to hospital in a dying condition as the emergency spread across the quarry. Continued on page two.
