Statesmen Wasted Time on Bills to Campel Railroads
A survey of 34 000 proposed laws shows 122 target railroads with measures limiting rates and forcing operations. Bills seek free baggage for adults, explosives rules, boiler inspections, pass restoration, sleep and work hour limits, safe cars, and railroad compensation. Notably, existing Bureau of Explosives gains praise, while many proposals risk crippling rail service or creating new offices. The chapter notes current laws include safety mandates on insecticides and monthly accident reports.
