Death of a Three-Week-Old Baby in Piedmont Avenue

Ruby Gerkin, daughter of Mr and Mrs Ben Gerkin of Piedmont Avenue on West Side, died last night at three weeks old after infant troubles and a final spasm. Funeral at 9 am from home, Catholic Cemetery burial, Rev Father McHiligott and undertaker John A McCabe in charge. The Sentinel offers sympathy to the bereaved.

Means crossing bridge debate in Gratton council

Special meeting of Gratton city council presided by Mayor Love examined license applications and debated abandoning Means Crossing. Council amended a report proposing B&O build and maintain a two wagon road bridge with walk, city to donate land and pay 16 000 dollars for completion, later raised to 25 000, with rights to an overhead bridge and roadway arrangements.

Gives Up Life to Save Babies in West Virginia Fire

In Littleton, West Virginia, June 15, a house fire claimed Mary Ward Viller, 19, who escaped through a window after her husband Alex Viller’s house burned. Her mother-in-law Mrs Henry Viller risked entry to rescue two children, Rita aged two and another infant, both saved. The father entered to help and doctors could not save Mrs Viller, who died three hours later. the children survived.
