An explosion at an Italian bakery in the Shaw building basement on Ethel Street occurred last evening after a baker lit a cigarette while heating an oven. The man, who started the gas, was only shocked and not seriously burned.
Charles Dent, a Red Cross pharmacy pharmacist on the West Side, suffered a severe fall while attempting a six foot jump from the shop step to the curb on Walnut street. He sustained a deep head gash but was treated and returned to work the following day.
James W Holt appears on Saturday's primary ballots as a long time good roads advocate. The editors efforts are recognized to advance the movement backed by state leaders.
Dr Della C Bibb leaves for Kirkville Missouri this morning to spend the summer there and at other points in Missouri. A renowned osteopathic surgeon in Grafton she enjoys a large circle of friends and patients who wish her a pleasant trip.
Helen Parrish hosted a Wednesday afternoon gathering for numerous friends on Ethel street in honor of visiting cousins Geo. and Junior Latham from Belington. Rev W J Hubbard, assistant financial agent for the Charleston Children's Home, is in town promoting the institution and its cause.
Naomi Chapter of the Eastern Star calls a meeting this evening with a large turnout urged. Nelson D. Bell of Masontown won in Grafton last night to serve as best man at the wedding of Hendy. Waller G. Crogan and Mary Martha Shelton are named among attendees.

Filmore Howell, a well known garbage man, has received a letter from his brother Dennison Howell and Dennison’s son Jim of Sail Creek Tennessee inviting them to visit in August. Filmore expects to entertain his relatives during their city stay and there will be something doing at the Howell residence when they arrive.

Adolph Ransom, a Belgian worker from Knotts Avenue, caused a near riot last night around 8 80 o clock by becoming temporarily demented and threatening to kill his wife family and himself. Police Chief Mays and Officer Clark arrested him after he fled. Ransom spoke no English and claimed to be the man sought, threatening further violence as he was taken to the Mayor’s office.
