Police search fails to find May Horner after Luroy Wilson was arrested for living illegally in Ellis boarding house East End. Reports suggest a baby found in a Fairmont suitcase may be her child born in Grafton, prompting fears of child desertion charges if captured.
A lively visit by Bobby Rothermel drew crowds in the city last night. The famed speaker talked with locals before boarding the 12 30 train to Fairmont with the team, continuing his engaging remarks about his career and old friendships.
The funeral for the late Mr W J Hathaway who died suddenly at his South Side home will be held Friday at 2 30 PM from the Grand street residence with Rev E H Waters of the U B church officiating. Interment will follow in Bluemont cemetery under the direction of Undertaker John A McCabe.
Branch brakeman Luroy Wilson, arrested on a warrant charging adultery with May Horner who has disappeared, was fined 50 dollars and costs after a trial in May or Love’s office. He was re-arrested later, arraigned before Justice Jenkins, and fined again 50 dollars and costs before release. The hearing occurred at 8 o'clock this afternoon as Mrs. Wilson and her brother Attorney Prunty pursued the case.
Manager Dan Raley of the Grafton baseball team was summoned home last evening by telegram as his eldest son, about ten, fell gravely ill and died this morning. Ross Raley, the manager's brother, left for Blaine to attend the funeral. Earl Edwards and Miss Ocie Stevens quietly wed in Oakland Md and returned to Graf ton to receive well wishes.
The Count of Monte Cristo film was shown last night at the Brinkman opera house, presenting the famed Alexandre Dumas novel's key scenes in a lengthy but complete adaptation. The 1910 Grafton High School Annual is on sale at Turner's, Hickman's, Helms' and Red Cross Pharmacy.
White Rose Grove No 2 members are to meet at 1 o'clock Sunday June 5 for decorating graves with a memorial service on the same day. Grafton Camp No 4 W O W and visiting sovereigns are asked to meet at the lodge room at 1 sharp to attend. Committees note Miss Gladys Lake of Parsons visited Knotts avenue cousins Reba and Pearl Lake and will travel to Fairmont before returning to Graf ton. Harris, Leader clothing store manager, is in Baltimore visiting his parents.
Thick fog and a hot southwesterly gale wrecked six vessels and cost eight lives along the Atlantic coast. The French fishing boat Mauve piled ashore at Miquelon with six drowned, nine aboard survived. The Norwegian bark Borghild broke up off Port Bickerton. seven rescued, two lost. The British steamer Ben Cruachan beached near Port Nova, crew of 26 saved. Tug Pejepscot and two barges ran ashore at Cape Spencer. all crew escaped.
Sky Pilot Settlement established on the Columbia River about 30 miles north of White Bluffs. Rev B Eide leads the project which grows several thousand acres of apple and other fruit trees, vineyards, and alfalfa. Settlers help one another but deny communistic plans and work toward fruit production. the name Sky Pilot Settlement is likely, with Hideville a suggested alternative if postal routes extend.
A quiet wedding occurred at the Baptist parsonage on the West Side officiated by Rev. Leland Jerome Powell. Miss Lucy May Steepleton married Mr. Howard Keifer of New Martinsville with the bride in a fray suit and the groom in black. The couple, eldest daughter of Mrs. Emma Steepleton and son of Mr. and Mrs. George Keifer, plan a brief honeymoon in Parkersburg before settling in their home at New Martinsville.
