Government officials said a facility to produce a valuable metal for atomic reactors will be built in West Virginia. A spokesman for the Atomic Energy Commission indicated the plant could be completed earlier than the contract required. The move follows a push to boost U.S. atomic work and expand production capacity.
Grafton marks its centennial with a Sunday service at Grafton High School stadium organized by the Grafton Area Ministerial Association. A Youth Song Service led by Kenneth Godwin opens at 7, flashlight finale as field lights go out, with Dr Rost Culpepper delivering the sermon “God Has the Answer.”
Thousands lined downtown streets for the Centennial Parade set to begin at 2 30 pm headed by George Preston Marshall farmer Graftonian and Redskins owner Distinguished guests include Rear Admiral Frederick Walder and local leaders from Grafton and Taylor county A parade lineup featured 35 fire departments bands from the region and entrants from the Central West Virginia Military Power Committee Clarksburg Betty Noe secretary and princesses from Clarksburg high schools led a caravan with Barbara Ann Roach Lida Lee Roby Sue Ann Davis Mary Jo Oliverio Joanne Frye Betty Habe Tiano and Erma Sandy Queen Anne Shahan and the Flemingston Misses.
Sunday features a Young People’s song service led by Kenneth Godwin with Mrs Na omi Lawson directing. Worship by Dr Ross Culpepper, West Virginia Methodist official, on the foundation theme. Monday offers events at Centennial Headquarters including visitors registration, exhibits, Kangaroo Court, Parade of Brothers and Sisters, beard judging, Swish Sisters awards, Centurama finale, fireworks, and dancing with Ca orchestra.

United Press reports an unseasonably cold day across the United States. Northwest states faced flood worries while the Midwest and southern cities recorded historic low temperatures. Louisville tied a 67 year low with 45 degrees, Atlanta hit 52, Syracuse 48, and Grand Marais 32 as June experienced rare chill.
Washington forecast calls for cooler than normal temperatures for the 30 days ahead along the eastern seaboard and the Sierra Nevada region. The Weather Bureau said Friday that temperatures east of the Appalachians are expected to run below average, with similar conditions in the western Sierra Nevada area.
