Two public drinking fountains will be erected in Grafton as World War II memorials headed by Taylor county. The World War II Mothers club, formed early in the war and still active, will donate the fountains and seek city approval to install them on sidewalks near the Post Office and at a Second site near the First Nations Bank or the city parking lot at St John and Main streets.

Holiday Accidents May Number Over 435
The National Safety Council estimates 435 traffic deaths over the three day Christmas holiday. In West Virginia, Monongahela Power Co announces a $12.5 million expansion at the Rivesville station near Fairmont. Spurr says the unit shows faith in future growth and will help meet rising demand. More Money Now Pork And Eggs Cheaper In 1950

Shotgun accident tied to Belfry student murder charge

Five Die in Second Floor Fire in Charleston
In Charleston a flash fire on the second floor killed five people including Mrs. Katie Cora Winston and her two young children Sammy and Beatrice. Witnesses say Mrs. Winston returned inside to try to save the children as others escaped. four others survived. The blaze started from a gas heater in room of Lt. Bernard Simms Clark, with most deaths from smoke and suffocation. The affected building housed the Church of God on the first floor and sustained heavy damage.

Two Men Serious After Furnace Blast at Hotel
A furnace blast at the Daniel Boone Hotel in Charleston left Vernon Adkins dead and Arthur Stitt Clyde Redman seriously burned. Two others were treated for water and steam burns after the eight ton boiler was toppled and gas accumulated following a pilot light outage.
