Judge to hear motion to set aside murder verdict in Charleston
Inter Mediate Judge Cyrus W. Hall will hear arguments December 15 on a defense motion to set aside the murder verdict against Harry Atlee Burdette. Burdette, 1255, was convicted in the slaying of Edward C. O'Brien, 31, who was kicked to death on a Downtown Charleston street. The jury returned a verdict without mercy and the sentence is the death penalty.

Four Children Die In Early Morning House Fire Near Mabie
An early morning blaze in a two story log house near Mabie, Ellkins county, claimed four young lives Evelyn Howell 11, Roger Lowell 4 Sandy Howell 2 and Andrew Zirkle 17. The home belonged to Mr and Mrs Joan Howell, Evelyns parents. The children were trapped on the second floor and perished. Two other Howell children Elizabeth 16 and Berlin 17 were hospitalized with critical burns. The cause of the fire was not yet known.
