Two Convicts Escape With Guard Abduction in Illinois

Young Husband Jailed For His Wife's Death
The twenty year old Clarence Epling was held on a murder charge in Narrows Virginia for the shotgun death of his wife Hannah Epling as she slept with their six month old girl in her arms. Epling surrendered with his father in Pearsburg after being sought since Tuesday night. Commonwealth's Attorney J Livingstone Ditlow of Giles county filed the murder charge. The pair had reportedly quarreled earlier in the day and a shot through an open first floor bedroom window killed the mother. the infant in her arms survived.

A McDowell county jury convicted Paul Murray of Bradshaw for the shooting of Shan Dillow in front of the Bradshaw post office on election day 1938. Dillow was killed. The conviction carries a prison sentence of five to 12 years. Murray pleaded self defense.

Trunk Found At Terminal With Slain Victim
The battered body of a young woman was found today in a trunk at Atlanta Terminal station. The trunk arrived from Washington, D C. Police noted a pool of blood under the head and bruising on the back hip and leg. Decomposition indicated death occurred several days earlier.
