A report from Nola Show notes a very good auction with strong average prices and overall satisfaction with sale results. Following the household goods sale, a cattle auction occurred at Grodland sale yards. An Erickson sale is planned for September 30 with livestock, horses, cattle, and machinery, near Grachtinger.
Elmer Olson announces an auction at Grodland sale yard in Graettinger on Saturday September 27 featuring 80 head of Duroc Jersey hogs and 20 head of young cattle. Auctioneers are M. D. Grodland and Matern of Wealey. clerk is Vincent Kelly. Olson will mail a sale catalogue to interested bidders.
John Weiner of Emmetsburg area plans a September 27 auction featuring live stock and a cooling coal pile guidance ad discussing prevention of spontaneous heating. Ben Reeves near town lists a Purebred Poland China hog sale for October 6 with Reeves Colonel Prospect, a renowned breeding boar, and a note on coal storage and a school reception with a playful clash between classes at Woodman hall.
In late September a drive aims to secure Iowa's 600000 share of the National Budget for the Salvation Army. County committees urge support, with Walnut Township asked for 250 and county goals set at 500, aided by local chairmen and bankers offering receipts. The effort highlights the Army's wartime services and asks residents to donate through local committees or directly to the County Treasurer. A list of birds observed near Grachingter is also noted with many species listed.
A letter from Alfred Thompson of Nigeria states that LeRoy Alfred Thompson was born July 17 in Yola Province, the first white child to live there. The note places Thompson at Numan, 200 miles east of Walari, and identifies him as a Sudan United Mission missionary.
Arthur Bergum and Dagmar Peterson united in marriage at Estherville last Monday afternoon. After their ceremony they traveled to Sioux City for a brief honeymoon and will reside in LeMars where Bergum and Walter Petersen own a moving picture show. The bride, daughter of Soren Petersen, is employed as a clerk in Graettinger and is praised for courtesy and friendship. The groom, son of E A Bergum, grew up in Graettinger and will continue the LeMars business with Petersen. The Graettinger community offers hearty congratulations and best wishes for their future.

Regular preaching services at the M E church next Sunday morning and evening. Rev BE Clegg of Clear Lake preached Sunday evening and led the quarterly meeting Monday morning. Year end reports praise success and solid finances for Cylnder and Graettinger parishes. Danish Lutheran South Walnut church hosts Danish language services Sunday at 10 30 conducted by a district meeting pastor from Ringsted with no evening service.
Frank Brown operates a lunch wagon and serves free lunches at local sales, earning good patronage. In spare time he repairs shoes, delivering first class work at reasonable charges and attracting all the repair work he can handle.
The Graettinger listing includes grade and high school staff led by Superintendent R Grigsby. High School hires include Miss Farquhar, Wins terset, Miss Steffen, Grundy Centers, Miss Fishcher Elmhurst Illinois, and Miss Schillig Town City. Grades staff list shows Miss Littleton Emmets burg, Miss Vedder Emmetsburg, Miss Bergum Graettinger, Miss Christopher Graettinger, and Miss Fodge Graettinger.
