Ben F Reeves of this place will hold a large hog sale Monday featuring five trice sows 26 gilts and 16 boars. The highlight is Reeves Colonel Prospect a Poland China boar bought for 2600 at Algona last fall praised as one of the breed’s finest.
In this issue a sale advertisement for D C Barringer auction announces a sale on Tuesday October 7. Mr Barringer will sell Ahin farm livestock machinery and grain. He also lists additional machinery and household goods on large bills. The sale includes 286 head of Hveatack and is described as one of the big BERSON sales.
C. E Fitzsimons schedules a business auction on Wednesday October 8 offering 107 head of livestock and a large machinery lot. The advertisement appears in this week’s ague of the Times.
Businessmen of Grachtinger announce another Market Day sale on Saturday October 11 with prizes for best livestock and for largest turnout and most buyers. A band concert will follow dinner, and the page ad promises many listed articles and cash advertising features.
Julius Sevdy plans a closing-out sale on Tuesday October 14 starting at 11 am at his farm location four miles west and one half mile south of Groettinger. The event features livestock horses cattle hogs farm machinery and house goods plus a 1917 model Ford car. Auctioneer M O Grodland and clerk Vincent Kelly noted for the sale.
The Gradttin Lyceum plans its first fall event at Hawkeye theatre Tuesday October 7 featuring The Althen Players, a five-member violin and vocal group praised for their stage presence. Tickets cost $2 for adults as part of a five-program winter series funded by promoting locals and business support.
Ten players and transient men were lured into a riverbank poker game near the gravel pit. Four gunmen forced hands up and looted the table as a wounded elderly man, Henry Severance, was shot in the shoulder. The robbers fled west by car after disarming and dispossessing players. searchs found no trace. Local sheriff notified. town alarm raised.
Buttislo Center defeated Hitherville to clinch the tournament title held at Olene Arena last week. Olene Jacobson and his brother played with the Mitherville club during the event.
John Robbins resigns from Gammon Lumber yard after many years and will relocate with his family to Osage Town within a week to ten days. He has joined Watkins Remedy company and will drive a Remedy wagon in Mitchell county. He recently bought a new Ford car for business use. The community notes that the Robbins family is a Beantinger fixture and wishes them success.
Graettinger resident Ray Roush arrived in Emmetsburg after 27 months abroad with Pershing. He served with the First Army Division, saw action at Soissons and in the Argonne Forest, and was one of 44 survivors from his company. He wore service chevrons two years, was slightly wounded, and planned to visit his grandmother and uncle before returning home.
R A Taylor received a car load of Avery tractors recently and has sold about twenty new tractors this year thanks to persistent advertising. The Royal Neighbors plan their next meeting at Woodman hall on Tuesday October 7 at 3 PM. Miss C M Johnson visited from Emmetsburg Saturday.
