The county sheriff will issue operator licenses starting September 25 with no exam for sixty days. Fee is 26 cents for two years. Questions include name age race height weight and driving history. Applicants 15 to 18 need a guardian signature. sworn before sheriff or notary. After sixty days exams begin.

The Palo Alto County Holstein Bull association holds a sale of forty pure bred Holstein cattle at the Graettinger Tile Works in Graettinger on Wednesday October 7 at one o'clock. The Times reports two August weddings of the Lippold brothers. Lloyd Lippold married in Chicago to Miss Reagan and Fred Lippold wed Miss Riley of Des Moines. Lloyd will live in Detroit where he supervises seventeen A and P stores. Fred works in Des Moines meat markets. Both couples are described as prosperous and well regarded.
Mrs Ty Richardson led a meeting at the home of Mrs 4 A McMillian in Highland township on September 17 with about 35 women from Highland Lost Telandic and Walnut townships. She presented the history and aims of the Farm Bureau and discussed U S agriculture. A noon lunch by Blue Ribbon Aluminum Wire Co impressed attendees, followed by an art demonstration.
An eastern publisher queried Secretary of Agriculture M. G. Thornburg about farmer attitude amid low commodity prices. Thornburg stated that the average farmer is discouraged as income falls and costs rise, citing high taxes, rising loan interest, war-time machinery prices, and railroads seeking a 16 cent freight-rate increase.
