The Grampian sails Sunday morning August 1 with nearly 300 passengers and cargo for Glasgow via the St Lawrence and Belle Isle. Swea City Tax Case Challenges Town Land Taxation

A. L. Poole petitions in district court to stop Swea City from taxing 40 acres within the town limits for municipal purposes. Lands owned by M. C. Thompson Lars Wrickson Henry Evans Col Courte and Chas. Duhieg are involved. Poole seeks retroactive taxes from 1910 onward and argues agricultural tracts over 10 acres cannot be taxed for bonds or utilities unless directly benefited. Lawsuit Ends With Verdict for Hurlbutt In 1911 Bank Claim

C C Hurlbutt alleged a $250 bank deposit at Conrad in 1911 went uncredited. A prior trial ended without a verdict. In a retrial last week the jury sided with Hurlbutt and awarded judgment against the bank amid ongoing legal action involving the French government.

Remarkable corn field yields praised by Iowa farmer

G Daten grows seven acres of corn planted May twenty second after late fall breaking. Despite overplanting with unfamiliar planters, the stand reaches four to six stalks per hill. The crop now denting, roasting ears forming, expected to ripen to a strong yield. Mr. Dalen from Iowa calls it the best corn he ever raised. Two varieties present, Wells corn winning three state fair prizes and the national Charleston exhibition top prize, plus the Hinckley white dent variety.

Stokke shoots at four boys in Fertile melon patch

L O Stokke of Fertile Iowa fired on four visiting boys near a melon patch injuring them, with one boy Gunders sustained a back wound near the spine but survived. School enrollment at Grasuliager reached 194, up from last year, with rooms filling and teachers hopeful for a good year.
