The Colorado Amalgamator company claims a new method to extract gold from Graettinger sands and plans to patent it in Washington. Wireless station installed in Graettinger

George Trick proprietor of Collins Drug Store leads Graettinger as the first resident to set up wireless, supervised by Boola Rothermel. Thirty six foot masts mark the top of two downtown buildings connected by copper wire, with earphone gear in the drug store and operation due soon. If successful, Trick will add a magnaveaux to amplify sound throughout the shop. A similar system recently went up on the Rothermel farm and concerts from as far as Atlantic Georgia have been heard clearly. The Graettinger outfit aims to pick up wireless news within a thousand mile radius. The Welcome band joined Graettinger for the Palo Alto County homecoming, supplying music for the parade and events as crowds gathered for the festival. The day included contests between Graettinger Ringsted and games featuring Fairmont and Sherburn, with Sherburn winning 4 to 2. The Welcome Times notes the local investors thanked the band for their performance.

Traveling man Hazards Drive Ditch Near Humboldt

Lake Bell, a traveling barber supply man, who has been drinking, drove into a ditch two miles south of Humboldt on Wednesday. An onlooker pulled him to town, and an acquaintance put him to bed. The county sheriff seized the car containing several hundred dollars of barber supplies, and Bell was questioned about his condition while driving on the public highway. Bell had spent time in Fort Dodge and was on his route, described as pleasant when sober.

Estherville Man Severely Injured in Accident

Estherville resident H. E. Clark, aged over sixty five, was critically injured Friday forenoon when a wagon load of railroad ties toppled as he moved them back to the M. and St. L. yard. He suffered a broken shoulder blade, three broken ribs, possible internal injuries, and punctured lungs per X-ray reports at Birney hospital. His condition remains serious but hopeful among friends.

Robbery at Lake Park Jewelry Store Investigated

A $20,000 theft occurred last Monday night at A. E. Shafer’s jewelry shop in Lake Park. Traveling salesman samples in four trunks were rifled, two boxes of fountain pens taken, but no other stock. The thief or thieves followed the salesman from Des Moines. detectives are on the case.

Baby Bitten by Rat in Sheldon Hospitalized

An infant in Sheldon was severely bitten by a rat during the night last week. The baby, sleeping in a cab, was awakened by cries at 1 a m and is reported in critical condition.
