Proposed STI street lights resemble twinkling stars

Graettinger Opens New High School Building Friday

Graettinger High School formally opened with an evening program and tours. Des Moines inspector John Foster praised school town cooperation and practical subjects. Musicians and students performed while H S board president A Baumgartner outlined finances and refreshments were provided by board wives. The event celebrated progress and a well equipped campus with a capable teaching staff.

School Notes on Miss Henningsen Absence and Clean-Up

Miss Phoebe Mueller subbed for Miss Hannah Henningsen in Grades Five and Six on Wednesday as Henningsen was out of town. On Monday, lower grade pupils and teachers cleaned the school grounds during recess. When the weather permits, all rubbish and brush will be burned or hauled away. Eight willow waste paper repair has been supplied with improved pencil sharpeners.

Fr G Dunn Addresses Hawkeye Audience On National Issues

Fr G Dunn spoke at the Hawkeye this afternoon addressing a fair sized audience. He stressed Mexico policy and criticized President Wilson, noting business interests push war. He argued U S relations with South America and reflected on earlier Philippine civilizing efforts. Also reports Mrs Thomas Jensen and son J C Jensen leaving for Newell Iowa to live with him after visiting her husband.

Public Auction and Other News in Graettinger

C A Seele will hold a public sale of town property in Graettinger on Saturday October 28. The eight room dwelling on Lot Three in Axelton's addition to Graettinger is for sale with terms $500 down $500 March 1 and the balance in one year. M D Grodland will oversee the sale. A public auction by J W and Charles Horr Monday drew a good crowd as horses cattle and most machinery sold well. Messrs Horn recently sold their farm and plan to move. An auction of household goods in Graettinger Saturday drew a large audience and prices were strong. Mr Olds reported a very good sale and plans to move to Wisconsin. The W C Eckley hog sale west of town October 18 was well attended with prices satisfactory averaging about 48 per head. Crow of Webb had 150 head sold the previous day with similar breeding and strong buying among the crowd. Cols Ritchie Donaghy and McMillan conducted the sale.

Funeral of Thomas Jensen Held Sunday Afternoon

The funeral for Thomas Jensen was held Sunday at two o clock at the Danish Lutheran church in South Walnut. Rev Simonsen presided with burial in the parochial cemetery. Pallbearers included Chris Henningsen S P Duhn Peter Petersen Neils Jensen J C Christiansen and L C Larsen. Jensen an Emmetsburg area resident for 32 years was a prominent farmer and respected citizen, with a life noted for industry public spirit and integrity. He was born in Aalborg Denmark June 5 1849 married Elsie Christensen October 19 1876 and moved to the United States in 1884 settling first in Emmetsburg then Graettinger before relocating near Newell Iowa. He leaves a wife and son J Jensen of Newell. The obituary notes his business acumen and public spirit and expresses sympathy to his family.

Sunday School convention opens in Palo Alto

The 27th annual Sunday School convention of Palo Alto will convene at Ruthven on Wednesday November 1. Rev A R Cuthbert of this place is listed as vice president and executive committee member. In the afternoon at 8:30 he will speak on Future Leadership In the Church and Sunday School. A large attendance is expected.

Meeting Postponed for Local Parent Teachers Group

Parents and teachers are informed that the PTA meeting at the high school, originally set for Friday evening November 3, has been postponed to Friday evening November 10. The event will begin at 7 p.m. and cover school issues and options for the community.
