Heart and Chest Clinic Planned in Emmetsburg

The Palo Alto County Medical Society and the County Tuberculosis Seal Association arrange a heart and chest clinic in Emmetsburg on Friday October 23. The event runs from 1 00 PM in the High School auditorium with Dr. Peck and Dr. Glomset from Des Moines, followed by an evening public meeting and educational films on heart disease and tuberculosis.

Mrs M Mugan Sister Of Mrs Conway Dies Sudden

Mrs M Mugan of Emmetsburg, sister of Mrs J P Conway of this place, died suddenly at her home Wednesday afternoon at three o'clock after years of declining health. Funeral will be held at Emmetsburg Friday at nine o'clock. She had suffered a stroke ten months ago and had been an invalid. Sunday she wished to visit the Conway residence in this city, but death came without warning. Mrs Conway and friends extend sympathy.

Impressive Dedication of First Lutheran Church Graattinger

The First Lutheran Church at Graattinger was dedicated on Sunday October 11 with the Right Rev Holm presiding. Pastors from Wallingford Estherville Fenton Armstrong Emmetsburg and Ruthven assisted. The new edifice seats many and includes a large basement parsonage kitchen and modern heating. The church and parsonage cost about 16000 with ongoing devotional meetings over the following days.

Catholic Ladies Aid society held its annual bazar with dinner and supper, selling many articles. The three act Will O the Wisp, set in Ireland, drew a packed Hawkeye Theatre with Grace McCarty as the Will and Adolph Spies as the magistrate’s daughter Sheila. Cast members included Loretta Swift, Clifford Rathman, Howard Horswell, Clement O Malley, Ralph Graettinger, Lester Craven, Emmet Murphy, Bernard Borman, Fred Wolfe, and the ladies aid troupe.

Walter Mangold Killed in Ringsted Auto Crash

Ringsted banker Walter Mangold was killed last night when his auto veered after a front tire blew out about a half mile from Ringsted. He was about forty, left a wife and child, and was formerly with the Ringsted State Bank after a reorganization before later working for the Farmers Bank. The Times thanks Mr and Mrs Harry Fink for the news item. Packard Car Damaged By Fire Near Rathman Farm

A Packard owned by Fredericksen of Des Moines was badly burned on the State road near the John Rathman farm Tuesday night around eight o clock. Gasoline from a leaking sediment bulb ignited and the body burned while the chassis and other parts remained intact. Fire Chief Henningsen and Wm Rasmussen arrived with the royal fire truck and extinguished the fire within minutes after a 45 minute effort by the owner. Fredericksen, nephew of Mrs E L Paulsen and brother of Dr Fredericksen, is a Des Moines resident employed by Portable Milling Co.

Mallard Defeats Palmer 4–2 in Sunday Game

Mallard baseball team beat Palmer Sunday afternoon 4 to 2. Francis Mulroney, Mallard pitcher home for the winter, twirled well on the mound. Lefty Wilson, former White Sox pitcher, started for Palmer. The game was fast and lively and boosts Mallard’s reputation for a snappy ball club.

Graettinger High School Grabs 19-0 Win Over Milford

Graettinger High School defeated Milford 19 to 0 in a hard fought game on Elsenbast Pleth. Peterson and Allen led a ground oriented attack as Graettinger halted Milford’s aerial attempts. Graettinger scored on drives and avoided Milford’s passes, improving to nine first downs to two. Next up, Graettinger faces Lake Park in Lake Park on Friday October 16.

The district group meeting of the Women's Home Missionary Society will be held at the Methodist church in this city on Wednesday October 21. The day begins with a covered dish luncheon and continues with afternoon sessions including talks by field secretary Mrs Matthews. Farm Union Branch Holds First Regular Meeting In Graettinger

The Graettinger Local No. 1897 of the Farmers Educational and Cooperative Union of America met at the Hawkeye Theatre on Tuesday evening October 13 with about twenty five members. Officers named include Alfred McCombs president C Rucker vice president Peter Andrea secretary and treasurer Loren Wolfe conductor Ed Anderson chaplain. B C Luhning C G Coppock of Pocahontas and organizer Thomas Vandevar of Curlew spoke on the aim and goal of the organization. Refreshments were provided by the ladies.
