Sheriff Gordon of Estherville was shot by a gangster during a gambling raid at a Gruver pool hall Saturday night. He was taken to Coleman hospital in Estherville for bullet removal. Ray Logan of St Joseph Missouri is wanted for the shooting and the gunman fled amid the chaos. Several others at the scene were rounded up and released as witnesses, with potential fines for gambling and operator penalties anticipated. Logan is about 85, with a large neck scar and distinctive brows, and may be identified by a state detective.

Knutsen Barn Fire Causes $1500 Loss Southwest of Graettinger
Fire of unknown origin destroyed the Knutsen farm barn near Graettinger on Monday at 9 30. Neighbors aided quickly saving the silo and preventing spread to other buildings. A short circuit is suspected from electric wiring. Lost were a new separator, feed grinder, harness and tools. Insurance over $1000 on the building. A new barn will be built soon.

The Ben F Reeves sale of Poland China hogs and pure bred cattle drew a large crowd at his Graettinger area farm. Hogs priced to present markets sold well though prices have fallen from 300 dollars in peak years. A noon lunch preceded a brisk 1 pm start. some hogs remained unsold and Reeves advertises trading hogs for corn oats or rye with modest premiums. Reeves also sold his western saddle and notes the bank's First National statement showing 141000 in deposits and an 81000 reserve well above legal minimum.
