Graettinger high school swept Ayrshire in a Friday twin bill with the boys losing 42 to 5 while the girls won 18 to 5. The boys fielded a rebuilt team after multiple graduations, and Harold Christiansen was sidelined by his father’s death. Martha Nelson and Genevieve Gammon led the Graettinger girls with Kent, Craven, Ioster, and Nefstead supporting. The teams planned another doubleheader with Ruthven Saturday evening.

The Norwegian Lutheran Ladies' Aid society will host a bazaar and chicken supper on Saturday, November 18, in the Hawkeye theatre basement. Auction items begin at 3:00 p.m. and the supper at 6:00 p.m. Tickets 50 cents. Norwegian dishes served cafeteria style include lefse, kringle, dravle, and potatoes kaka. Also a candy booth and an east town Willing Workers bazaar. Public invitation extended.

Hard Coal Shipment Sells Fast at Royal Lumber Yard

Death of Fred Luhman Ends Long Local Career
Fred Luhman, longtime resident east of Graettinger, died Friday after a prolonged cancer battle. Born November 16, 1861 in Hanover Germany, he settled in Iowa, married Augusta Mittelstead in Ackley, and left a widow, two sons, three daughters, and seven grandchildren. Funeral Monday at 1:30 pm at the M E church, Graettinger, with burial east of town. Surviving relatives include his wife, children, and siblings in Germany. neighbors remember him as honest and industrious, a provider who valued education for his children. The community extends sympathy to the family.

Funeral Held for Mons Christianson in Graettinger
Mons Christianson died Tuesday afternoon and his funeral was held Saturday with services at his home and the Norwegian Lutheran church. Rev S O Sande officiated as pallbearers and family mourners included eight children, four surviving, with neighbors and friends gathering to pay tribute. Born in Sondsogn Norway in 1856 he emigrated to America in 1886, lived in Livermore and Graettinger, married Lena Larson in 1892 and worked for Rock Island as a section foreman before pensioning. He was remembered as a quiet devoted husband and father with many friends in the community.

F E Schurmann sold his hotel restaurant and confectionery business to John Paulsen with possession given Saturday morning. Schurmann had run the Graettinger enterprise for eight years, earlier partnered with Don Skow, later buying out his interest. He also plans to continue in the motion picture business and may become a traveling salesman after January first.
