Andrew Nelson suffered a fractured skull when the saddle girth broke and he was thrown from a horse while moving cattle in a pasture near Estherville. Dr. Ed Hesslon treated him, a drain tube was inserted, and he is reported to be recovering well with no expected serious injury unless complications arise.
October inspection shows most mail boxes moved to right side of road to reduce carrier risk and crossing. Regulations require roadside boxes on the correct side and sturdy setups. two routes now comply with few exceptions. Extra boxes and weatherproof carriers’ boxes urged to protect mail and aid delivery under rural service rules.
The Norwegian Lutheran Ladies' Aid society will host a bazaar and chicken supper on Saturday November 18 at the Hawkeye theatre basement. An auction sale starts at 2:00 with a six o'clock chicken supper and Norwegian dishes served cafeteria style. The Busy Bees and Willing Workers groups also plan bazaars and booths with a general invitation to the public.
Mr and Mrs John Swift mourn the death of their infant daughter Vera Lavonne who passed away Tuesday November 7. The funeral was held the following day with short services conducted by Father Kelly at the house and grave. Pallbearers were Loretta and Evelyn Swift. The Times extends sympathy to the family.
Carl B Jensen expresses heartfelt thanks to all willing workers who helped pick up my items Friday November 8. Grateful for kindness and support from each and every helper.
Passed away Tuesday afternoon following a long illness. Funeral Saturday at 1 PM at the house and 1:30 PM at the Norwegian Lutheran church. Mons Christiansen, a prominent Graettinger resident, died after a lengthy illness, shocking the community. Rev. S. G. Sande to officiate. obituary to appear next week.
Dr Tandy a Mason City minister spoke at Hawkeye theatre Friday to back the American Legion and veterans benefits. He recalled wartime service as a chaplain and praised Legion aims, drawing strong local approval in Graettinger and noting the recent election result. Local Legion commander Ai Henningsen introduced him and highlighted ongoing Legion activities.
An 80 acre farm northeast of town, which won gold at auction last Friday, sold for 200 dollars per acre to Td. Dayton. Mrs Dayton, a heir of the estate, purchased the property. The farm has poor improvements and sold for more than expected.
The November election of 1922 is history with surprises nationwide. Democratic majorities grew in doubtful states while Minnesota shifted, Shirstead as former labor candidate for U S senator affected the outcome. Brookhart’s Iowa victory looms large. the Iowa bonus bill passed by a large margin promises relief for soldiers and farmers alike. John Brown of Graettinger suffered a fractured jaw multiple facial lacerations and a broken nose in a Rock Island yards accident at Estherville. Found with his head across a rail in a bloody pool, he was taken to hospital where his condition stabilized and his prognosis improved. He is a son of Mrs. Frank Brown of Estherville and had worked in the Estherville Rock Island shops.
Mr Jertaon addressed members at a High School assembly on Monday evening. The program opened with community singing. Miss Herman presented first grade pupil’s piece, praised by Times reporter. Miss Duhigg sang, noted as exceptionally talented. John C Jertgon gave a short tale and instruction on the ballot. Officer election closed the program.
