Armistice Day Talk by Chaplain Smith Inspires Patriots

Chaplain Smith a U S Army Reserve officer and Ayrshire pastor delivered the Armistice Day address at Hawkeye theatre. He praised the Legion and the United States, urged religion as the cure for internal evils, and urged all to join a religion. He charmed with oratory, traveled from Fort Dodge to Graettinger and Spencer for Legion events, and slots included a Griffith film, America, shown to a capacity audience.

Malcom Jensen Lost Finger In Coffee Grinder

Malcom Jensen seven year old son of Mr and Mrs G A Jensen had the right hand index finger amputated at the first joint after a revolving electric coffee grinder incident at the Jensen store on Tuesday. Dr Hexston dressed the wound and he was taken to Estherville hospital for amputation. Co A Selee bought McAllister home at a sale held Saturday afternoon as two or three parties vied for the property amid a light attendance due to corn picking.

Graettinger Edged by Emmetsburg in Scrimmage

Graettinger lost to Emmetsburg 6 to 0 in a preliminary scrimmage as coach Harrington’s football hopefuls tested their skills against Emmetsburg’s second team. Graettinger showed early struggle with passes, but improved over time. Geil and Craven stood out on offense, while Reynolds and Henningsen directed play. Basketball practice begins this week with a December 4 game at Ringsted, and over a dozen new books were added to the high school library from last year’s fundraiser.

Bazaars Prove Successful For Lutheran and Catholic Groups

Two bazaars held in the past week drew strong attendance and generous patronage. The Lutheran Ladies Aid bazaar on Saturday in Woodman hall offered lunch and a five o’clock pin cupper, with display items sold and an evening auction by Grodland. The Catholic Ladies Aid bazaar drew a large crowd for noon and evening meals, a candy booth, and an auction of unsold items by Grodland, totaling about 435 dollars in receipts.

More than one hundred guests attended as Rev L O Wigdshl delivered a short address and a quartet sang. The couple received an 80 piece silverware set and a cash purse. A luncheon and a large wedding cake with flowers followed. All present wished them many more years together.

Spencer Fair Profits 7429.19 At Clay County Fair audit

An executive board audit of the 1925 Clay County Fair receipts shows total income 42279.31 and total expenses 38596.14, leaving 3683.17 cash on hand. After removing 4957.06 for permanent improvements, 1383.16 for past debt, and 687 for grounds maintenance, the net profit is 7429.19 as reported by the News-Herald for submission to the state board secretary A. R Corey to secure state aid.
