John Wilson Died Thursday Funeral Held Sunday

John Wilson a respected community member died Thursday after a surgical operation at Emmetsburg hospital. Funeral Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Catholic church with Father Kelly officiating, large attendance, interment at Catholic cemetery northeast of town. He was born September 20, 1858 in Brooklyn New York, aged 69, married Johanna Shea in 1884, father of nine with six living. He and his wife moved here 37 years ago, farming then buying a home in Graettinger. A devout Catholic and honest neighbor, he leaves a large family and many friends. The Time extends sympathy to his wife and children. out-of-town mourners attended the funeral.

Birthday Cheers for 78th Mr Michaels

Surprised by family and friends, Mr Michaels marked his 78th birthday at his home with a thoughtful gift. He remains hearty and active in his occupation as foreman, with well wishes for continued health and strength in the years ahead. Loring Brereton of Brereton and Bauck died Monday from meningitis after a short illness tied to spinal meningitis while working on a road grading contract north of Gracttinger. he is survived by his daughter.

Busy Bees Bazaar Slated for Hawkeye Theatre Basement

The Busy Bees plan a bazaar in the Hawkeye theatre basement this Saturday November 12. Numerous useful articles will be for sale and homemade candy will be offered. Grachtinger residents are reminded to support the Busy Bees on bazaar day.

Nels Mortensen of Wallingford neighborhood recently purchased a fine new DeLaval milking machine from Jensen Hardware. Mr. Jensen has sold many of these machines during the past year and all are giving excellent satisfaction.

Legion Dance at Hawkeye Theatre Next Monday

A Legion dance will be held at the Hawkeye theatre next Monday evening November 14. Music will be furnished by Jim Luchter's Milford orchestra. A cordial invitation is extended to everybody to attend.

A large grain-storehouse is being built south of the concrete elevator, with Hooy e Construction Co of Minneapolis as contractor. Workmen push to finish before extreme cold. Local residents and families are noted visiting, traveling, and attending events including funerals and bazaars.

Death of Mrs Briggs in Steamboat Rock Tragic Stove Explosion

Mrs Frank Briggs of this place mourns the death of sister-in-law Mrs Wm Briggs of Steamboat Rock Iowa. She died from burns after a cook stove exploded in her home. She lived eight hours but never regained consciousness. She visited here on various occasions and will be remembered by many locals. All regret the sad tragedy.

Election of librarians and carnival parade at Graettinger high school

Tuesday meetings elected four librarians from each class to run the high school library with rotating duties and hours. The parade Friday promoted the upcoming carnival with prizes for floats and costumes, a dog show, and entries including Miss Graettinger Ervin Clemitson. Receipts exceeded 160 dollars despite expenses, and delegates to Atlantic City were urged.

The Wolfe school social east of town Friday drew a large crowd with a fine program. Receipts totaled 86 dollars, about 30 dollars of which came from the event. Miss Marie Laughlin, the teacher, expressed satisfaction with the results.

The past week was cool but pleasant with no snow. Saturday stayed below freezing all day but no snow made it feel less harsh. Sunday was pleasant while Monday brought a damp south wind. A few flakes fell at night and disappeared by Tuesday morning. Many people are busy with corn picking these days.
