Machine harvesting rises in local corn fields
The day of hand work in the corn fields is rapidly passing as picking machines become common. In the past years many new machines were adopted and about half the corn in the area is expected to be machine picked this fall. The season has not been ideal, but the machines are doing the work. Some farmers complained.
Machinery Shifts Ease Corn Harvest In Damp Fields
During light rains last week corn picking ran smoothly with two row machines now used and expected to replace one row units within years. Morning picking benefited from damp fields while afternoon work proved harder. A successful day can yield vast corn in the crib as harvest eases farming toil in Iowa.
