April warmth marks Iowa's warmest spell in 86 years
Special to Times reports four weeks of heat make April the warmest since 1918. Waterloo reached 95 degrees as moisture remains scarce across much of the state. Rain is uneven, corn planting waits for safe moisture, and early southern fields show sprouting while all small grains and pastures crave rain. Alfalfa grows well due to deep roots.
