Ronald Anderson, three, of near Ruthven, ingested pills prepared by his family doctor kept on a high shelf. He died en route to the doctor’s office, with the family and funeral held at Ayrshire Lutheran Church. Relatives from Terril, Graettinger, Sac City, Ames, and other areas attended.

Mason City Visitors Stir Graettinger Streets On Tour
Mason City boosters visited Graettinger on Tuesday evening for about twenty minutes. Their band played several selections on the street while party members called at local businesses. Graettinger welcomed the call and Old Glory flew at each storefront during the visit. Orville Wheeler of Graettinger suffered a broken rib in a Friday night head on collision near Jackson Minnesota. Wheeler’s Ford was nearly stopped when the Jackson car, driven by a sleeping operator, struck him. Both cars were badly demolished.

Train And Tractor Plows Collide At Jack Creek Crossing
A week ago Friday afternoon a northbound passenger train led by engineer Pat Sullivan collided with Harry Wikert’s tractor plows at the Jack Creek crossing. The plows were badly damaged and the loss runs about $150. Wikert attempted to reposition the plows after they fouled the rails but could not keep the tractor on the steep grade. He signaled the approaching train to stop.

Graettinger High School defeated Ringsted High on Ringsted’s diamond Friday afternoon by 18 to 7. John Nelson Legion post members purchased and installed a 55 foot steel flag pole on Mainstrat in Graettinger. Cost is 50 dollars plus labor. pole sits in a five foot concrete bed. The old wooden pole was struck by lightning last year and the new steel pole is a clear improvement. Patriotic Appeal for Gold Star Market Funds Next Saturday
A local patriotic drive on May 9 collects voluntary contributions in Gruettinger for the Iowa Gold Star Highway fund. Boy Scouts will stand at four corners of the flag pole corner to receive gifts. Palo Alto county quota is $220 with Graettinger’s share $25. Gold Star markers honor Iowa World War I dead and will be placed along the White Way and Jefferson highways. Graettinger expects 12 to 18 markers with locations announced in the Times later.

The Hawk Eye theatre showed The Covered Wagon on Friday and Saturday with a packed hall each night. The audience turnout was a record breaker, many had to be turned away as the continuous performance ran from early evening until one o'clock in the morning.
