Wage increase and rising costs squeeze Harvester profits
Wages and materials consume nearly all Harvester sales revenue. An 18 cent per hour general wage increase for Harvester factory employees was approved by a Government board and accepted by the Company. Raw materials costs rose with an average steel price up 8.2 percent. Prices charged for products remain at 1942 levels while costs reflect 1946 prices, leaving profits squeezed as wages rise 56 percent above 1941.
