A large livestock auction is planned for Friday, March 27 at Baumunk's place, seven miles northeast of Graettinger. The sale features 182 head of livestock, including 21 head of cattle, 108 hogs, and other animals. Free lunch at 11:80 prior to bidding.

Spirit Lake High School captured the second round of the Class division state contest Saturday night by beating Sioux City 24 to 22 after posting a 28 to 0 win over Eatherville and a 71 to 20 victory against Webster City. Sioux City showed strength earlier, defeating Buone 8 to 20 and later 28 to 20. In Class B Division at Storm Lake, Ruthven advanced but fell 26 to 16 to Albert City in the second round.
E. and George, proprietors of Graettinger Nursery, shipped four spruce trees to Des Moines to decorate city property. Final planting will cost several hundred dollars. The trees ranged about 14 feet long with a 10 foot spread, had burlapped roots, and weighed 4,700 pounds for two trees and 4,006 pounds for the other two.
Misa Susan Boseld of Columbus reports a very dry Montana winter with little snow and widespread sickness. She fears crops next season may suffer due to lack of moisture. A basket social is planned at Duns school Friday evening March 20 with a program and baskets from ladies. Miss Alta Nelson teaches. The event was postponed last Friday due to a blizzard.
A High Lake reader to Times office advocates establishing a local cream route. He notes spring to fall farm activity, gravel roads, and potential savings for patrons. He calls neighbors to meet, assess interest and costs, and suggests a trucker be engaged to start the scheme within two weeks.
Blizzard delayed Wallingford market sale from Saturday to Wednesday. Roads were impassable Saturday forenoon but Wednesday drew large attendance. Norwegian Lutheran Ladies Aid society served a splendid dinner. Sale totaled over $3,000.
R E George son of Mr and Mrs B S George of this city is city chess champion at Fort Wayne Indiana He recently faced the Hungarian champion who visited Fort Wayne The Hungarian expert played twenty three games at one time and Mr George was the last one eliminated The foreign gentleman then played three games blindfolded winning two and tying with Rolland.
