A southeast wind and heavy rain with hail moved through the area Saturday noon, knocking shingles and lifting two desks in J Ny Iverson's yard. Despite the strong wind in the Wallingford area, the storm caused no material damage in the section.

A light Mon day school board election re elected Dr L L Lindsey and W H Noble. Lindsey 80 votes Noble 77 votes. Other names listed Mrs E 5 George 12 votes and Mrs Dd EB McCarty 9 votes, though not candidates for office.

Lehigh Buys Merklin Property North of Dr Nane Home

Mr Lehigh has purchased the Merklin property comprising a residence and surrounding ground just north of the Dr Nane home. The buyer plans to construct additions and bring the property to first class condition for a good market. Mrs Baedke Dies After Brief Illness at Terril

Mrs Fred Baedke died Friday at her Terril home after a day or two of illness. She suffered strokes Wednesday and Thursday night, with funeral services at the Terril German Lutheran church conducted by Rev Wagner. Surviving children include Henry, Gus, August, Fred, Martin, Ted, Arthur, Matilda, Mrs Hurd, and Mrs Anderson. The Times extends sympathy to her husband and family.

High School Court Team Beats Grastlinger Gold Diggers

The High School cagers defeated the Grastlinger Gold Diggers 18 to 15 in a well played game at the local gym. The Gold Diggers enter a tournament at West Bend Friday and Saturday, with Grastlinger facing Kanawha in the first game.

A. A. Axelton Pioneer of Early Double Action Pumps

A. A. Axelton of this city presented his original double action pump model to the Times office. The device, made 45 years ago in Roland Iowa, was used by Sioux City water works and to power street sprinkling wagons, reducing labor. He later patented a single cylinder double action pump, an innovation now common. A large company allegedly copied the patent, but Axelton notes his design 46 years ago remains foundational.

Debaters Back Farm Aid Veto at B A meeting

A Tuesday evening program at the B A meeting featured a lively debate on the veto of the Farm Aid bill. The affirmative, led by Supt Stevenson and Mr Adolphson with the Postmaster, defeated the negative side represented by Beryl Wail W L O Connor and A H Henningsen. Judges favored the affirmative.

Road Work Delays Plank North of Emmetsburg

Road crews and foremen battled a rough section four miles north of Emmetsburg on the Times Highway with planking to keep passage open until frost ends. Carla could not pass this stretch from Saturday to Wednesday. A second trouble spot near Estherville’s river bridge was being filled with cinders and rock and traffic resumed Tuesday.

Charles Murray Has Leg Amputations After Infection

Charles Murray of this locality is ill with blood poisoning at Boone after stepping on a nail. The leg was amputated above the ankle then between the ankle and knee, and finally just below the knee. Floyd Murray visited Boone Monday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Murray had been visiting there. Many Graettinger friends regret the misfortune.

Henry Baedke Enthused With Oil Prospects

Mr and Mrs Henry Baedke and son Henry Jr returned from a trip to Cushing Oklahoma and Chandler Texas. He impressed by oil industry growth and the potential for investments in oil development though skeptical of farming value. Brother in law sold an 80 acre farm for 42000 after buying at 11 an acre. They left Graettinger February 17 traveling via Illinois Central, Kansas, Missouri, sightseeing until called home by his mother’s sudden death.
