Graettinger gears up for a big Market Day sale on Saturday March 12 with auctions starting at 1 pm. A large selection of mostly new items from Edward Bradley machinery leads the list as merchants promote special bargains. Lunch by Camp Five Girls includes sandwiches and coffee. attendees urged to come early and spend the day.
Wallingford hosts its big annual market day on Saturday March 19 with a community dinner served by the Ladies Aid society. The sale begins at 1 pm featuring machinery from Jorstad Hardware and a display ad in this week's Times. Grodland Reeves act as auctioneers with J A Nelson as cashier. sharp start and strong bidding anticipated.
Market roundup from Chicago top hogs at 12.00 with mixed prices for sows and chicks. Dairy butter and potatoes noted with retail prices around two dollars, while hens and other poultry show modest movements.

Emmetsburg’s Wirat National Bank faces examiner involvement as a plan to raise capital through new stock unfolds. A 100 percent assessment on capital stock is ordered, with stock auctioned at 185 per share for 600 shares to form Palo Alto National Bank. The new bank carries 60 000 dollars in capital and 21 000 dollars in surplus, while waivers and previous assessments affect other local banks. Also notes auto crash near Emmetsburg injuring two drivers and Arm strong High School basketball wins Spirit Lake and Emmet County tournaments, knocking Graettinger out early.
Emmetsburg bowling team defeated Graettinger in a two game series held on Emmetsburg and Duhn alleys. Graettinger won the first round by 838 pins but Emmetsburg recovered to lead the second and third rounds by 63 and 73 pins respectively. A rematch is set for next Monday evening in Emmetsburg.
Oshey Department Store interior neatly painted and papered under A TH Shaver in charge. Store was torn up during decorating but management and employees prepared to serve patrons. Social dance next Thursday features Gruettinger quartet at Woodman Hall with expected large turnout and fine music.
The Hawkeye theatre in Grnottinger will show the special picture Behind the Front on March 18 and 19. Management urges patrons who enjoy a high class production to attend.
Camp Fire girls will serve lunch Saturday March 12 at Market Day with sandwiches and coffee. A cordial invitation is extended to call. If you feel hunger pangs on Market Day remember the Camp Fire girls.
Blake McMacken facing murder charges in the deaths of William Bobbt and William Laughlin will plead self defense when his case proceeds to trial. He is reported gravely ill with pneumonia but has a chance of recovery. The testimony of Mrs. William McMacken, the sole eye witness, would bear heavily on the case. McMacken has signed a confession not released by County Attorney Carmichael. Also noted is a husking bee held Tuesday at the Frank Carney place, a communal effort to aid the ill and distressed, with many neighbors participating and dinner prepared by local women.
The P T A will hold its March meeting at the school house next Tuesday evening March 16 at 8 o clock The program includes a debate musical numbers calisthenics demonstrations by the Junior high school The debate asks if President Coolidge was justified in vetoing the McNary Imugen Farm Relief bill The affirmative speakers are H Raleigh Harold Adolphson and C W Stevenson The negatives are W L O Connor Beryl Wall and A T H Henningsen

Full land particulars appear in a display ad in this issue. Dancing Wives plays at Hawkeyes Theatre next Saturday night, a film with a comedy undercard.
Wer Laughlin, brother of Graettinger businessman Martin Laughlin, died at 48 and was honored in a Saturday service at Assumption church in Emmetsburg with Rev. Father Murtagh presiding. The large crowd from Graettinger attended, burial followed at St. John's cemetery. he was remembered as a quiet, kindly man with no known enemies. The Times offers condolences to the Laughlin family.
The M I Ladies Aid society will serve a St Patrick Day supper at Woodman hall dining room on Thursday March 27 with hall decorations and the Trish themed welcome. Suppers are monthly and well patronized. a cordial invitation is extended to all to attend.
The Times prints thousands of copies of a 16 page catalogue for E. S. George at Gracttinger Nursery. Business is rising yearly and Mr. George expects a heavy sale of nursery stock this season. Black Hill Spruce is in high demand for both wholesale and retail buyers. Local stock grown here is superior for northern Iowa and southern Minnesota. Shipping distant stock is not advised.
The Amiah t home hosted Elmer and Mrs Olson as they marked their twenty fifth wedding anniversary with over a hundred relatives and friends. A noon repast featured a large cake and pink white carnations. Music included a wedding march by Mrs Thoreson and Miss Irma Olson singing I Love You Truly. Out of town guests from Pequot Minn Ruthven Huron and Estherville joined relatives in celebrating the milestone.
