Kane Spies Case Settled By Agreement

The case Mra. Gene Kane v J A Spies in Fmmersburg district court ended today with Spies purchasing Mrs Kane’s interest in the John Jackman Estate for the agreed price. The settlement closes a hard fought dispute stemming from Mrs Kane’s $8,000 loan to the late John Jackman and Spies’ partnership in land deals. Attorney James W Fay of Fmmersburg represented Mrs Kane. Wallingford Market Sale set for March 20 features livestock, farm goods, and a dinner by the Ladies Aid. Public dance by Rebekah lodge on St Patrick’s night March 17 with Iowa Trio. Last Graetchinger Sale planned for March 27 following March 21 market event.

Funeral Held This Morning for Joseph R Bigley 82

Joseph R Bigley aged 82 died Tuesday night after months of illness. A requiem High Mass was held at the Catholic church at 9 a.m. and burial took place in St. John's cemetery Emmetsburg. He was a longtime cattle dealer, father of twelve with wives and children listed, and a respected Palo Alto county resident.

Route One Rural Route Changes Near Town

Changes to Route One Rural Route One reroute sections along Eatherville road to Lewis Paulson corner and Gravel Pit and Jorgen Anderson schools, with a three mile southward leg to town. Additional alterations shift flows from Fallow toward town along a westward segment. Road work includes gravel road detours via Vogde Splaa and others, with mailbox boxes installed before April on the road’s right side. changes take effect in April.

Funeral of Mrs. Clara Thompson Held Friday

Funeral services for Mrs. Clara Thompson were held Friday at the M E church at 10 a m with Rev C J Mekkerson officiating. Burial followed in Emmetsburg. Mrs Thompson born April 21 1852 in Freeport Illinois would have been 74 next birthday. Survived by three sons and four grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters. A pioneer resident of Palo Alto County, she was active in public welfare and a devout church member. Her passing drew wide community mourning.

A record turnout of 267 votes produced a two-seat victory for Dr. Th T Nawe and John J Sullivan. Mrs BE George led with 120 votes, Henry Hansen 140, Dr Nase 125, Sullivan 126, securing the two open positions. Dr M J Reidy unopposed for treasurer. Re-elected board members retired, praised for efficiency and thrift. The new board includes Dr L L Lindsay W H Noble S S E Sandvig Henry Hanser and Dr Th T Nawe with Dr M J Reig treasurer and Herman Elsenbast secretary.
