Killed By Rock Island Freight Train in City
P P Peterson a longtime Rock Island employee and respected city resident was struck by a east bound freight while attempting to move a section car from the track. He died ten minutes later at the depot, with fog and poor visibility cited. The engineer claimed warning signals were given. Peterson left a wife and two children, and funeral services are planned. Algona Defeats Graettinger In Spirit Lake Tourney
Algona High School defeated Graettinger 15 to 11 at the Spirit Lake tournament Friday evening. Guilford Pausen and Norman Thoresen each scored two baskets, Joe Sullivan one, while Tanner Jacobsen was out sick. Graettinger led most of the game though Algona struggled with shooting. Spirit Lake second team beat Witherville. Spencer Indians won the hard contest against Spirit Lake. Milford reached finals but only one basket. Graettinger later left for Sioux City to compete at Morningside College with Jacobsen back in the lineup.

B Franklin laid to rest Friday after blizzard
