Killed By Rock Island Freight Train in City

P P Peterson a longtime Rock Island employee and respected city resident was struck by a east bound freight while attempting to move a section car from the track. He died ten minutes later at the depot, with fog and poor visibility cited. The engineer claimed warning signals were given. Peterson left a wife and two children, and funeral services are planned. Also notice: three act comedy Oh What A Night will run March 7 and 18 at the Iowa Theatre with a strong local cast and special musical attractions.

Algona Defeats Graettinger In Spirit Lake Tourney

Algona High School defeated Graettinger 15 to 11 at the Spirit Lake tournament Friday evening. Guilford Pausen and Norman Thoresen each scored two baskets, Joe Sullivan one, while Tanner Jacobsen was out sick. Graettinger led most of the game though Algona struggled with shooting. Spirit Lake second team beat Witherville. Spencer Indians won the hard contest against Spirit Lake. Milford reached finals but only one basket. Graettinger later left for Sioux City to compete at Morningside College with Jacobsen back in the lineup.

Methodist special meetings invite volunteer cooperation

The Methodist Episcopal Church invites attendance at next Sunday's special meetings starting next Sunday. The theme is Resignation versus Resolution. The pastor asks everyone to arrange work and social affairs to attend each evening service for the town’s uplift and community improvement.

B Franklin laid to rest Friday after blizzard

The obituary notes B Franklin of this city died last Monday after months of illness. Funeral services were held at the M E church with Rev Cunningham officiating under American Legion auspices. He was a Civil War veteran and Palo Alto County official, with a long career in drug business and politics. He leaves a wife Ella Jones four children and several siblings. The Times extends sympathy to the family and references Near East Relief appeals and Morgenthau urging aid.

Masters Duhn Couple Wed In City Ceremony

The couple will live in the city. The bride has worked as a clerk at the Louis Christiansen Variety store and the groom is a skilled mechanic at Jensen Auto Co. Women win in Graettinger school board race

Mrs N J Mitchell and Mrs B 8 George win three year terms on the Graettinger school board. They led a three candidate race with 75 and 64 votes against 53 for C H Berdin. They are noted as first women to serve as Palo Alto county school directors and have teaching backgrounds. Retiring directors Martin Myhre and E A Baumgartner presided as presidents during long service. Dr M J Reidy elected treasurer without opposition.

Mission Meeting At Lutheran Church In This City

A mission meeting is in progress at the Lutheran church this week Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday. Rev. Skor the missionary in charge leads, with outside pastors Rev. Hansen and Rev. Stand of Wallingford Rev. Berge of Estherville and Rev. L C Wigdah of Ruthven participating. Large attendance noted and the mission promises to prove highly successful.
