Kathman Child Dies On His First Birthday

Elden Kathman, the one year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kathman, died Wednesday after illness from flu that progressed to pneumonia. The family, living in the locality, mourns the loss as friends offer sympathy.

B Franklin Dead Funeral Friday In Blizzard

B Franklin died Monday evening at his home after a long illness. Funeral services are set for Friday at 10 a.m. under American Legion auspices as he was a Civil War veteran. City offices will close 10 to 12 Monday morning due to blizzard conditions delaying the services. Alfred N Jensen named focal manager of Royal Lumber Company with Harold Jensen leading Emmetaburg yard, effective April 1 after a month’s vacation. Graettinger development plans for a new company building on PL teCarty’s plot. City politics heat up as March 29 election nears with a mayor and five councilors to be chosen and party caucuses planned at least ten days before.

Knights of Pythias Initiate New Members

The Knights of Pythias held initiation exercises in Woodman Hall on Monday evening with three candidates receiving initiatory degrees. Attendance was larger than usual, work completed, followed by a poetal session and refreshments. Initiation will resume at the next meeting with unfinished degrees for additional candidates. The Pythian Sisters lodge is expected to be in full operation soon.

Pioneer Citizen Rasmus Jensen Dies in Gratingy

Rasmus Jensen a longtime Emmetsburg area settler died Saturday February 28 at his Graettinger home after months of illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the South Walnut church with Rev H P K Wanson officiating. interment followed in South Walnut cemetery. Jensen born October 29 1835 in Denmark married Kristine Petersen in 1869 and came to America in 1875, later moving to Grac ting er area. survived by his wife and nine children with six living. The community notes his fifty year golden anniversary last June.

Graettinger Boys at Spirit Lake Basketball Tourney

Graettinger High School basketball team leaves for Spirit Lake to compete in the Spirit Lake tournament. Forward Tanner Jacobson fell ill with influenza and Harold Harrington will replace him. Graettinger hopes for a strong showing, aiming for semi finals. LuVerne will not compete at Spirit Lake but sends best wishes, while LuVerne enters the Ames tournament.
