Death of Michael Haag Ends Long Graettinger Life
Michael Haag, 76, died Friday after pneumonia. Born May 30 1858 in Boxhorn Luxemburg he emigrated to the United States in 1888 with wife Catherine Werner. They settled near Graettinger, built a renowned farm, had one son Francis who died young. Funeral Mass was held Monday at the Catholic church. pallbearers included B. R., John and G. M. Graettinger, T. J. Duffy, James Boyce and August Boehmer. He was remembered as generous, honest, devout, and devoted to his wife of many decades.

Wallingford Man A Victim Of Infection
Clarence Peterson, 21, of Wallingford died at 10 10 this morning from tetanus after an infection in his left foot from a farm accident near Hoping two weeks earlier. He slipped and was crushed by a hay press. at Coleman hospital his leg was set but infection spread as anti tetanus serum ran out. Survived by parents Charles and Mrs Peterson of Wallingford and siblings Eugene Leroy and Elnora. funeral plans not yet announced.

Tests Show Old Corn Not Fit For Seed
Fred Spies informs the Times that he has tested 1982 and 1933 ear corn for seed for this year's planting. He notes seed quality is exceptionally poor with fifty percent grading under fifty percent. He warns farmers against relying on old seed, stating that the 1985 crop should not use last year’s seed and that the prior two years’ corn may be suitable.

Mrs Daarud Funeral Held Last Tuesday
Mrs. C J Daarud of Palo Alto county died early Saturday March 2 1985 at her home west of Graettinger after long illness. Funeral was held Tuesday at home and First Lutheran Graettinger with Rev M Mandsager. She leaves children Hans Sattern Enger Jenks and several sons and daughters, 21 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Her husband died in 1929. The Times extends sympathy.

Willard Rucker son of C C Rucker east of Graettinger and Miss Dorothy Yule daughter of Mr and Mrs I B Yule of Estherville were married Wednesday evening March 6 1985 at the bride’s parents home. Rev Arthur Bailey officiated with Percy Yule and Dorothy Powell as attendants. Music by Deane Williams and the Yule couple sang. Bride wore white taffeta, pink satin bridesmaid dress, pink and green decorations. Guests included relatives from Graettinger Emmetsburg Dwight Illinois Streator Illinois Minneapolis and others. The couple will reside with the groom’s father east of town. Rucker farmed with his father and the bride is well regarded in Grunettinger. The Times extends best wishes.

The annual Red Cross meeting of Graettinger's local chapter will be at City Hall on Thursday evening March 21 at 8 p.m. Officers for the ensuing year will be elected. A nurse for two or three days to inspect school children may be discussed. Members urged to attend to avoid a quorum issue. Mrs FE George vice chair. Took Part In Musical Burlesque. Baby Boy Oppedal Dies After Illness
Mr and Mrs Iver Oppedahl west of Graettinger mourn the death of their baby boy after pneumonia and complications. Funeral at Lost Island Lutheran Church with Rev M Mandsager officiating. Interment in Lost Island cemetery. Pallbearers were George Ingalls Charles Phillips Harley Rierson and Dale Jensen. The family includes five other children Thelma Ruth Van Dale and Jean.
Tourney At Spirit Lake Opens Today
Tourney at Spirit Lake opens with Coach Behren s high school team facing Spirit Lake in the first round of the state sectional tournament. Two players have left the squad Lawrence Jensen to join music events and Kermit Jensen is ill with rheumatism, dimming hopes for a victory. Graettinger girls lost 31 to 28 to Ayrshire last Friday after beating Rodman 30 to 22 the night before, continuing a strong season.

Francis Hester Drowned In Cedar River
Francis Hester eight son of Mr and Mrs Ambrose Hester of Cedar Rapids and formerly Emmetsburg was drowned in the Cedar river Tuesday. He fell in after the boat sprang a leak and swam toward shore but was swept away by the current. A black boy on shore tossed a rope but missed it and the boy drifted to his death after being in the water twenty minutes. The Hester family receives sympathy from Graettingland Emmetsburg friends.
