Will Hold Annual Meeting of Cemetery Association

The annual meeting of the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery association will be held at the Graettinger church on Tuesday March 12 1935 at one p m. Officers for the coming year will be elected and other business acted upon as needed.

Record Prices At Chapman Auction Sale Near Emmetsburg

The Chapman auction near Emmetsburg set records with roan mares selling for 344 dollars a suckling calf 70 dollars a sortel gelding 170 dollars a black mare 170 dollars and a Holstein yearling bull calf 156 dollars. Yearling heifers averaged 75 dollars and the sale total reached 4200 dollars. Grod land & Reeves of Graettinger announced the sale and Charles Spies of the Iowa Trust of Emmetsburg served as clerk.

Girls Tourney At Ayrshire This Week

The girls sectional tournament is set for Ayrshire this Thursday through Saturday with evening games starting at seven. Curlew vs Whittemore opens the slate followed by Dickens vs Ruthven, Cylinder vs Ayrshire, and Graettinger vs Rodman. Graettinger aims to win as locals plan to attend.

Blizzard Brings Deep Snow and Cold to Valentine Month

A fierce late winter blizzard moved through Sunday with high winds and drifting snow. Monday brought open highways but tough driving, especially off main routes, as temperatures dipped to five below zero and radio reports indicated subfreezing readings elsewhere. Vernard Rogers income tax auditor for this Iowa section will be at City Hall Graettinger Saturday March 2 to assist residents with income tax report questions. McNew Attends Wisconsin cattle sale and accident

E M McNew and Henry DeWall traveled to West Salem Wisconsin for a four hour consignment sale of high grade and pure bred cattle. 175 head were sold with cows averaging about 60 dollars and young heifers 25 to 30 dollars. McNew bought a pure bred animal. En route they avoided a head on collision by veering into a ditch near LaCrosse. no injuries but the car was badly damaged.

Rock Island Train Delayed Twelve Hours

Rock Island railroad train No. 19 en route to Sioux Falls was snow bound for 12 hours between Wellsburg and Holland in Grundy county. Huge drifts nearly 15 feet deep blocked the track from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. before section crews freed the train. Normal schedules resumed Monday night as Iowa and other Midwest states recovered from the late February snow storm, which caused at least three deaths and many injuries.

Prices High At Combs Auction Sale

Large attendance at the K. E. Combs auction sale on the Barringer farm east of town. Prices were good and the sale a decided success. A motion picture titled The Shepherd of the Seven Hills was shown at Hawkeye Theatre Thursday evening, drawing a large crowd despite stormy weather, presented under the Catholic Ladies' Aid society.

Baby Bobby Rae Hampson Dies at Age Four

The Hampson family of west of town mourns the death of Bobby Rae, their four year old son, who died at Estherville hospital after curaemic poisoning. He had been ill since yesterday and the funeral will be held at Lost Island Lutheran church Saturday afternoon.

State J. C. Cage Tournament Now In Progress

The state J. C. tournament is underway at Fort Dodge this week. Emmetsburg meets Fort Dodge Thursday at 8 30 p.m. with slim chances if they fail to snap their slump. Estherville plays Independence at 10 p.m. tonight. Graettinger fields Edward Sullivan and Joe Grady, both on last year’s county title team.

Representative A. H. Henningsen is home for a ten day vacation from duties at the state capital. The break allows him to meet constituents and discuss legislative matters. With March first moving day in Iowa many lawyers have important private business to finish in late February and early March.

Michael Haag Ill After Week of Sickness

Michael Haag aged 77, known in Graettinger, was quite ill at the start of the week with a lung fever. Local friends hope he regains strength and soon may be about again.

Mass Time Change at Local Catholic Church Next Sunday

Mass at the Catholic church next Sunday will be 9 a.m. instead of 10 p.m. It is the first Sunday of the month Father McEvoy from Ruthven will hear confessions Saturday afternoon and evening starting at 8 p.m. On the other Sundays in March the mass hour will be at ten o’clock.
