A garbled OCR fragment lists opinions on taxes and science, recalls a Light Brigade survivor, notes stock exchange costs, and muses on radio competition, pronunciation quirks, fashion shoes, leather sources, and firearms contracts, all in a meandering, period-voice jumble.
University of Illinois electrical engineering staff members A A Brown and A Keener report success in tests of a noncarrier broadcasting system. They note elimination of fading, greater distance coverage, improved selectivity, and suppression of extraneous sounds, while cautioning that further testing is needed before claiming final results.
Hints for radio fans describe tuning stages not neutralized and using vernier dials, connecting battery leads in a sequence to test results, and improving grid condenser in the detector tube. It notes distortion with loudspeakers and suggests testing the speaker on another set, plus cautions about condenser mounting and paper resonance in the press.

The improved arrangement, based on the original Weagant circuit, provides stronger and easier-to-control signals. Experimentation determines the tickler coil turns, often more than the standard setup, though the exact count varies with each set.
A local column quips on blankets and mornings not warm enough, jokes about crossword puzzles and attempts to understand women. It notes the U S promise to aid in codifying international laws and laments the jumble of our own legal codes.
