Clara Paulsen Injured In Auto Crash In California
Clara Paulsen of Los Angeles daughter of Mr and Mrs P J Paulsen Graettinger was badly hurt in a crash. Her right wrist was broken one rib broken and ligaments torn loose from arms and legs. The other driver had both legs broken. The Cadillac wrecked after striking a palm tree following a wrong turn by the car ahead. A year ago Miss Paulsen and Miss Josie Larsen were injured in another auto accident en route from Los Angeles.

Deckert Meat Truck Ditches Ox on No 17 Road
One Decker meat truck left its load when rounding a turn on No 17 between Gracttinger and Wallingford Friday. It climbed a high bank and overturned, sliding about 150 feet. The driver escaped with only slight injuries.

Mrs Owen Finnegan Dies In Carroll Home
Mrs Owen Finnegan, long a local resident, died at her Carroll home on Tuesday. The funeral was held today with Rev Father Kelly of Gracttinger in attendance. The Finnegan family had lived east of Gracttinger, moved to Fonda in 1904, then Carroll. Mrs Finnegan was over 70. Mr Finnegan remains alive and in frail health. Local friends extend sympathy to the family.

The Graettinger creamery selects a team to represent at Mason City in the third cream scoring contest. Winners include P. J. Two Children Cremated In Farm Blaze
Edward three and Donna eighteen months old, children of Mr and Mrs Oren Wiley, of the Clarinda neighborhood, were burned to death Friday when their tenant house on the E G Strong farm burned. Mrs Wiley and son John eight went to the field for water while the mother had started a fire in the kitchen stove to bake bread. The fire evidently started from the stove.

Labor Day Meeting Called For Today In Graettinger
A meeting of Graettinger citizens is set for Thursday at 2 p.m. in City Hall to plan the 1983 Labor Day celebration. All are urged to attend. Lyle Kastvid, son of Mr and Mrs Levi Kastvid, suffered a broken collar bone after a fall from a horse last week Saturday. The injury is painful and noted by friends with regret.

Sheriff and Deputy Nabbed Station Bandits
Sheriff Bert Montgomery and Deputy Harvey Sprout captured two oil station bandits after a high speed pursuit between West Bend and Rodman. The duo Burgiss Gaylor and Dick Thompson, both 21 from Owatonna Minnesota, were convicted of robbing two oil stations in Pochahontas County and West Bend, receiving 25 year sentences. They also confessed to stealing two cars, one at Mason City and another maroon Pontiac stolen at Fort Dodge, possibly Irwin Greenlief of Fort Dodge as owner.
