Three Farms Sold During Past Week

Real estate news from Iowa weekly papers reports three farm sales. The Thomas Thoreson Estate farm changed hands for 100 dollars per acre to Ralph Mason of Lake Center, up from 68 the prior year. The C P B Jensen farm near Grad t ar sold for 65 per acre to Tom Laurens, 120 acres. The Peter N Petersen 200 acre farm near Riverside church at Wallingford was purchased by Art Skattebo, around 50 dollars per acre. Prices have risen about 30 dollars per acre in the last year.

Forty-Six Year Catholic Priest Honored in Graettinger

Rev Father Kelly marked his 46th year as a Catholic priest with an anniversary dinner in Graettinger. About 300 attended at the Hawkeye Theatre as priests, former citizens, and non-Catholic friends congratulated him. Money was presented as a gift, honoring his long service to the church and community.

Raymond Brom Named Graettinger School Superintendent

Raymond Brom of Gibson, town, was chosen as superintendent of Graettinger schools by the board at its Monday meeting. Brom, currently Gibson superintendent, lives in Pella Iowa. He is a single man and follows Leon Smanpe of Palmer, who was hired earlier but not released by Palmer board.

Norman Osher Called For Air Service Tuesday

Norman Osher, long employed in the C. A. Jensen store, was summoned to Des Moines Tuesday night to report for duty with the United States government flying corps. An experienced aviator, he recently passed an air corps examination in Minneapolis and faces another test in Des Moines before a possible three-year term with Uncle Sam’s forces. Training will begin at Kelly Field near San Antonio, Texas.

Fourth of July Celebrations At South Walnut Lost Island

The Danish Ladies Aid Society of South Walnut township will serve dinner at the Fourth of July celebration with a menu of mashed potatoes and gravy chicken pickles bread and butter home baked beans escalloped var pie and coffee. Martin Myhre suffered three broken ribs in a fall from a step ladder at his barber shop Tuesday morning of last week. He struck his side on a table corner, endured days of pain, and was confined to bed. He returned to work the first of the week fearing possible pneumonia or pleurisy.

A barn on the J A Spies farm near Wallingford was blown down in Tuesday morning wind. Several barns in Lotte Creek were also destroyed. The Sioux City area sustained notable storm damage.
