Death of Alfons Hassel in Graettinger family rites
Alfons Hassel died Monday near noon after stomach cancer. Born April 7, 1868 in Germany he lived in Illinois before moving from Ottawa to the Lewis Lippold farm east of Graettinger last spring. Survived by a wife and two sons, funeral at the Catholic church with interment at St. Jacobs cemetery. The services were led by Rev. Farriley in Emmetsburg.

Sunday Farm Conflict Ends in Struggle and Arrest
Freeman Gorman discharged worker P W Welch from his Swen township farm last Sunday. Welch threatened the Gormans with a platinum dipper and battered Mrs. Gorman when ordered out. County Attorney Van Ness arranged Welch’s appearance before Judge Crowell in Algona after Sheriff Sampson brought him from Sherburne Minnesota. Welch claimed self defense, while Mrs. Gorman bore bruises.
