Oil Station Bandit Killed In Emmetsburg Shootout
A liquor store oil station hold up near Emmetsburg Tuesday night ended with a bandit shot dead by Sheriff Fredericksen and City Officer L L Jones as they pursued the fleeing car. Harvey Sorenson was captured and later confessed to related robberies and sentenced to 25 years. The deceased was identified as Claire Christianson of Albert Lea whose age and details are given, and the incident involved a 1930 Pontiac with Cerro Gordo plates. The pursuit spanned Wallingford to Emmetsburg, with rifle fire exchanged and the stop shot aimed to puncture the gas tank.

Whittemore Man Dies On Highway Tragedy
Donald Weir a 26 year old Whittemore resident died Sunday night after falling from the rear platform of a moving truck on federal route 18 six miles west of Emmetsburg. Lee Howell and Harlow Fish were in the truck and saying they picked up Weir en route to Electric Park for a dance. Sheriff Bert Montgomery arrested them at Electric Park after a passerby reported the fatality. An inquest found accidental death with a skull fracture and crushed scalp. Weir was a known local figure with ties to Emmetsburg and Ruthven communities.
