Funeral for Mrs John Wolfe Held in Graettinger

Obituary notes the death of Dorothy Carrol Allen Wolfe at age 17, wife of John Wolfe. Funeral services were held Saturday at St. Pauls Lutheran with both pallbearers and honorary pallbearers named. V L OConnor is installed as postmaster of Gradlinger on Tuesday June 12 with Forrest Peterson aka Frosty as his assistant. Former Postmaster Raleigh and Lloyd Matera remain briefly to ease the transition. OConnor has long ties to Graettinger and is active in the local Democratic party.

Mrs Martin Laughlin Stricken While Doing Chores

Mrs Martin Laughlin was taken suddenly ill Tuesday noon while climbing a barn ladder to feed chickens. Severe pain struck her right side, she fell to the ground, and neighbors found her on the porch. Doctors and a priest were summoned as relatives hope for a rapid recovery.

Rain Totals Reach Five And Half Inches Across County

Threatened Peat Fire Contained Near Eagle Township

A peat fire in Eagle Township, caused by dry conditions, was confined to four or five acres by 20 workers under Supervisor P. J. Heiken. The blaze west of the Lawrence Thoreson farm threatened a round grade and a 60 acre peat field, halted by a deep ditch, county piles, and a grader. No rain details are given beyond noting a prior dry period.
