Funeral of John Brennan Held Saturday

John Brennan pioneer citizen of this community died after a long illness. Funeral held Saturday at nine at the Catholic church with Father Kelly officiating. Burial in Emmetsburg Catholic cemetery. Pallbearers named. Survived by two nephews and two nieces. Brennan and brother Patrick homesteaded land near Graettinger. He was known for honesty and cheerful optimism. Never married and long cared for by niece Mrs Martin Laughlin.

Community Mourns Loss of Hardy Pioneer Immigrant

Loving care given him by his niece is recalled as the community honors the memory of a worthy pioneer immigrant. No daughter could have been more thoughtful or self sacrificing, and the sympathy of all is extended to those who mourn his passing.

Silver Wedding Anniversary for Thoresons at Lost Island

One hundred friends gathered at Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Thoreson's Lost Island township home last Thursday to celebrate their twenty-fifth anniversary. A planned two hundred guests limited by rain. They received a silver purse. Rev. L. O. Wigdahl spoke. Out of town guests included Mr. and Mrs. Will Schow of Ventura and Mr. and Mrs. Giving of Lake Mills.

Night Marshal Agnew Killed in Emmetsburg Auto Crash

Henry Agnew Night Marshal of Emmetsburg died after being struck by a westbound truck driven by Elmer Nelson on a rainy night. He crossed near Farmers Trust Bank with umbrella up. Nelson did not see him until impact. Agnew died at the hospital about an hour later. Nelson remained at the scene.

Auto Crash Injures De Molays Delegates In Storm Lake Route

Genevieve Gammon, Ruth Noe, Julius Osher, and Selmar Amdat of Titherville escaped serious injury when the Dr B T Osher car slid off an embankment at Superior crossing. The Willyak Knight sedan struck a telephone pole, demolishing the upper body though motor and chassis remained useable. the party was en route to a De Molays district convention in Storm Lake.

Butter makers meet and state butter contest at Emmetsburg

The 6th district Iowa Butter makers Association gathers June 18 in Summersburg for a meeting and state butter contest judged by J. D. Brunner and A. W. Rudnick of Ames. M. P. Junker chairs at 1 PM in the Court House. W. G. Middleton and Co. R. Conway give welcomes and responses. A talk on starters by J. J. Brunner precedes music, then Creamery Inspector M. E. McMurray discusses Agriculture and farm bureau relations. A butter judging contest follows, with a banquet evening program headlined by Prof. Mortensen of Ames on dairy prospects. This first meet of its kind aims to be the state’s most successful.

Her brother Norman accompanied by Wilmer Petersen and Clarence Christiansen also left by auto. The four ladies will cook while the men keep the cars running. Fine Program At Estherville Thursday June 18

Estherville celebrates its annual homecoming on Thursday June 18 with a morning parade at ten, a large leased circus tent for industrial exhibits, free attractions, and entertainment by American Legion show troupes. A baseball game and balloon ascension are planned, drawing crowds from Graettinger and surrounding areas to enjoy a day of family festivities.

The Carlson auto driven by George Carlson and a lady passenger collided with another vehicle at the Times Highway near the Vernon church. Carlson’s car was badly damaged but no one was seriously injured in the Sunday evening accident.
