Marriages of Local People During Past Week

Two local weddings reported this week feature Wilson and Wendt at Lakefield Catholic Church with a 9 AM high mass on June 4. The couple, James Wilson and Violet Wendt, will honeymoon visiting Fort Dodge and other towns before settling in Graettinger.

Powers-Hamilton Couple Wed at Catholic Church

William Powers and Kathryn Hamilton were married Thursday morning June 4 at 7 30 in the Catholic church, with Leo Hamilton as best man and Mae Hamilton as bridesmaid. A wedding breakfast followed at the bride’s east of Grachtinger home, then a honeymoon at the lakes. On return, they will begin housekeeping on the groom’s farm east of Grachtinger. The bride is a popular, highly esteemed young lady.

The community wedding celebrates a bride from a longstanding local family and a thrifty farmer groom east of town. The Times offers hearty congratulations and predicts a long, happy marriage. Splendid Convention Held Yesterday by I O O I and Rebekah

The third joint I O O I and twenty first Rebekah conventions met in Grandtinger yesterday with large attendance despite cold weather. It was among the most successful gatherings for the order. A full report will run in next week’s Times.

A Nice Lift In Time Of Trouble

Marshal Fleming led a subscription drive in Graettinger to aid Mr and Mrs Hickey after a destructive storm last week. He collected 100 dollars, joining many local contributions at the disaster scene. Mrs Hickey, badly injured, is recovering though bones may take time to knit and shock lingers.

Ringsted Beats Graettinger in 5 to 0 Sunday

Sunday afternoon the Ringsted baseball team defeated Graettinger 5 to 0 on the local diamond. The game was fast and interesting throughout.

Local High School 1925 Class Graduates in Record Size

The Hawkeye theatre hosted the largest class yet with 28 graduates, 14 boys and 14 girls, receiving diplomas for completion of study at Grachtnger High School. Prof. Lapp urged balance of head heart and hand while noting lasting value of knowledge over wealth.

Great Oak Man Fatally Injured In Oil Explosion

James Earnest of Great Oak township died after an oil kerosene fire exploded destroying his clothing and house. He tried to extinguish the flames by covering himself and leaped into a water tank then drove to a neighbor before dying at the hospital. He was 33, survived by wife and three brothers and his parents. He held a $1000 life policy. Source notes record from the Emmetsburg Democrat. Graettinger Boy Bitten By Mad Cat Lust Memorial Day Vance Horswell aged 8 was bitten by a cat. The animal was killed and sent to Town City to test for hydrophobia. A later report confirmed the germs present. Vance began serum treatments under Dr P J Hession with serum from Des Moines. Treatments are severe but necessary.

Nickey Benefit Dance Near Osage for Hickey Family

A benefit dance will be held Friday evening at the Elmer Frederick farm one mile north of Os good to aid the Hickey family's relief fund after last week’s twister. An invitation is extended to all to attend. A balloon stunt is noted as part of the event.

Waldorf College sextette to perform at Hawkeye Theatre

A Waldorf college sextette comprising a male quartet a pianist and a xylophonist will visit Grachtinger Tuesday June 16 under the Luther League auspices. Five of six are Waldorf choir members touring Minnesota and Wisconsin this summer. Last year the group gave fine programs nationwide and this year the numbers are stronger with added pianist and xylophonist. Admission is 25 to 35 cents with expected large attendance.

Hunchback of Notre Dame Heads to Graettinger This Week

The twelve reel three hour film The Hunchback of Notre Dame plays Friday and Saturday in Graettinger. Friday offers guaranteed seats with lower admission of 15 and 35 cents, while Saturday may sell out.

Wind and Rain Sweep Through Emmetsburg Graettinger

A Sunday evening storm struck the area at 6 10 PM delivering a fierce gale for about 30 minutes. A large southwest cloud split, with part blowing toward Emmetsburg and the rest moving north and east over Graettinger.

Funeral Of Mrs J M Resh Largely Attended

The funeral for Mrs J M Resh was held Sunday afternoon with services at the residence led by Rev Otis Lamg. Interment followed at the cemetery east of town. Survived by six stepchildren and six brothers and three sisters, she resided in this community for 34 years and was active in church and social affairs. The Times extends sympathy to the family.
