Town Man First To Pilot Plane To Germany

Clarence D. Chamberlain of Denison and Chas A. Levine of Brooklyn became the second Americans to fly nonstop from New York to continental Europe. They launched from Roosevelt Field Saturday, landed near Berlin after about 46 hours aloft, suffering a fuel shortage that forced a landing. Their craft, larger than Lindbergh’s, crossed roughly 4,000 miles with several detours through sleet and fog. Both pilots were exhausted but uninjured, with plans for full interview details to follow.

George Vavra of Estherville was the driver of the car captured east of Grasttinger Institute week. He was taken to Fort Dodge by two state officers who stopped the car and took Vavra, the vehicle, and its contents.
