Memorial Day Observed With Fitting Program
Memorial Day was observed in Grasttinger with a community parade from the High School to the Onexa home grounds for services. Ex servicemen, the High School band, and citizens attended a morning ceremony, a theatre program, and a speech by Averett L. Jones of Buena Vista College. The Legion Auxiliary conducted poppy drives and the day honored fallen soldiers and sailors.

Jones First Rural Mail Carrier Celebrates Memorial Day
This week’s Emetsburg Democrat notes Mr and Mrs Warl Jones and family of Gruettinger spent Memorial Day with Mr Jones father and brothers in the city. Mr Jones is described as the oldest rural mail carrier in the county, having opened the first route at Cylinder in 1908. The second route in the county was started by the late Hao Demouth.

First Communion Class Grows Size at Local Catholic Church
Twenty two boys and girls form the First Communion class at the local Catholic church on Sunday morning. Father Kelly had taught catechism to the students for weeks and is proud of the unusually large class. Twins Born One Died at Home Mr and Mrs John Nesson welcomed twin boys last Thursday but one did not survive. The mother and surviving baby are doing well and friends express sympathy. Barn Dance Planned June 9 at Teo Terwilliger Farm A barn dance near Mallard, with good music, will attract crowds from Graettinger and surrounding areas. Bible School Opens with Sixty Attendees Vacation Bible School opened at the M B Dutch church Monday with about 60 attendees. Instructors listed include Rev. Fremont Foul and several assistants.

Ringated Boy Killed by Falling Post
Kenneth Petersen son of Mr and Mrs Martin Petersen of Ringsted died after a post fell on him Thursday morning. He had been injured at play the previous Tuesday, breaking two ribs and causing internal injuries. Funeral held Memorial Day.

Locals Lose to County Seat Stars in Ball Game
The county seat kitten ball team beat Graettinger 9 to 5 at the High School rounds Tuesday evening. Graettinger led until the fifth inning when the visitors surged ahead. Cramer Bound Over In Attempted Murder Case
Joseph E. Cramer was bound over to the grand jury meeting in September after a late night domestic dispute in which he throttled his wife, brandished a wallpapering knife, and threatened her life. Their 17 year old daughter witnessed the confrontation and police later arrested Cramer on North Fifth Street after an all night search. The couple had prior quarrels and Cramer had threatened his wife before. Cramer, a painter, has been employed by D. C. Wells for about a year.
