Henningsens Return From Chicago Trip On A Y P Road
Mr and Mrs A H Henningsen came back from Chicago Thursday evening after driving there the prior Sunday to buy fall and winter goods. They traveled the A Y P highway which is pavement or gravel all the way and noted detours through Galena Illinois. Roads are improving rapidly and a gravel and concrete route from Graettinger to Chicago was once hard to imagine. DeGeest Smith Everett DeGeest and Ruth Smith from Wallingford were wed at Esthmoskburg on Saturday July 12 with attendants Owens Sruesdel and Bertha DeGeest. Rev Sunderlein performed the ceremony. The couple are popular and well wished by friends. The Times extends hearty congratulations.

Crop Failure South Of Shaldon Reported In Emmetsburg
Emmetsburg Reporter notes Martin Vandervelde, a farmer south of Sheldon, suffered a total crop failure this year due to severe drought. He moved five milking cows to his father’s farm northwest of Emmetsburg and sold the rest of his property. The northwest Iowa region, near Palo Alto and Emmet counties, has been extremely dry, with rainfall desperately needed.

Heavy wind damages crops and trees in county
A heavy wind Friday evening blew from the south and southwest for about ninety minutes. Emmetsburg area saw stronger gusts that flattened fine corn but caused no permanent damage. Many trees fell in the southern part of the county and Graettingar reports a few trees blown down. Two large clouds did not yield a reply.

The Emmetsburg Telephone Exchange is sold to Western Electric of Maxon City for 70000 dollars after twenty years of Western Electric efforts. Emmetsburg’s company, organized in 1897, had no home stockholders and reinvested earnings. W. J. Branagan aided local control. the plant features a brick office building, extensive cable, and historically low rents compared to Estherville and Spencer. Concerts and films announced for Hand's Park events follow the sale.

Graettinger Chautauqua ended Thursday evening with the final number the play Give and Take. The production was fine despite a poor run mainly due to a bad season and low attendance. No weekend programs were held and guarantors expect a small deficit to be made up.

Between June 14 and July 14 West National Bank Graek Tinger saw deposits rise by 51064.77 and reserves by 37858.49. Total deposits reached 83219.65 with reserves at 70606.24.
